The race not being for the swift but to those who endure to the end?

I was having this consideration today while talking to my daughters. We were talking about taking care of our physical body through proper food, drink, rest, exercise. While taking to them, I was reflecting on the matter of running. That at the beginning, those who do long distance running may have not been able to go very far at first, but as they ran more and more, their endurance got better. Right now I am trying to exercise at the gym after a two month break and at first it was a real struggle for me to make 10 mins without feeling exhausted. But now, two weeks later, I can go for 1 hour of full cardio, but it was a building up to get to this point so far. Any kind of running takes endurance and strength to go the distance.
Turning this matter to the spirit man, this part of us that needs to be cared for as we feed in the word of God, as we drink of the Spirit thorugh prayer and calling on the name of the Lord and from daily exercising, do we see that this is the way that we endure to the end.
We each have our own course that the Lord has set before us as believers. How is our endurance? How do we exercise our spirit man from strength to strength to endure to the end? Is eating and drinking enough? If we eat and drink but do not exericise our spirit to share the gospel, to fellowship with others, to function in the Body of Christ through our gift, ministry and stwardship in the Body, then do you think that we are being balanced and able to complete the race which required endurance?

How is endurance acquired?

I know it seems like a round about kind of question, but I would really love your take on this matter.

Thank You for taking the time to post and to share about how enduring as a christian in this race set before you.

And one more thing. Ever notice that people who run, do not run with heavy encumbering clothes on them? Their clothing is light. Do you think that there are things in your life, be it sins, self, the flesh, the " I" that cause you to be weighed down as you seek to run with endurance?

Yours in Christ

Catholics (or any Christian, really) : Tobit 12:9?

NRSV says (Tob 12:9) For almsgiving saves one from death and purges away every sin.

I am pretty sure about this, but dont Catholics believe that almsgiving is great but it does NOT get rid of sins? If you can support yourself with something from the Catechism or the Bible, that will be fine! Open to all Christians

What is the meaning of mathew 5: 1-23 in the bible?

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.”

Is wanting to just barely squeeze into Heaven good enough?

Aw, c'mon, Midge! First you want me to accept Jesus, and now you want me to diet??!!

Lol! :P (((Midge)))
