What Hapend To The Green Yahoo Answers

Is Yahoo Answers dead? If so, why?

Thank you, Mr Kitts, for the A2A.Yahoo Answers, as noted elsewhere, isn’t dead. It’s just a cesspool, and its descent into such a state is neither unique nor surprising.Companies that run websites whose content creation is dependent on the “kindness of strangers” — users who volunteer — face an existential question: Do they impose constraints, either automated or human, on membership and discourse, or do they open the doors to all comers? The former has the advantage of being at least a half-hearted attempt to maintain quality (and can work very well, too), but it comes at a price: there are barriers to entry, which necessarily cuts down on traffic and, presumably, revenue (there’s also the echo chamber effect). The latter increases traffic and visibility, but that comes at a price, too, notably spammers, sock puppets and trolls. As those user types proliferate, the people who would otherwise be providing thoughtful and useful content find someplace else to go, and the site is left with the lowest common denominators, those people whose sole purpose in joining a site is to have some fun making a mess of it without fear of consequence. But pick any on-line “community” (one of the most misused words on the Internet), including this one, and I promise that a simplistic rendition of Gresham’s Law will be in play: bad content drives out good content, and bad users drive out good ones. Yahoo Answers is just the most prominent example.

What is the rationale behind the green color of Yahoo Answers website?

I don't know if there's any rationale behind the green. You'd have to ask Pam Huey, the lead designer behind it. Her first product design iteration did capture a green and growing knowledge-based tree theme.Let's take a look at the Answers pre-Beta.1) First came Knowledge Search.2) The second iteration, Q&A Cafe.3) Third and vehemently rejected by focus groups (for its name), WiseAsk.4) Finally, what we dubbed the "Alien Blood Green" skin, launched as the Answers beta.--So, the green sprouted from an original design and just carried through several design iterations. Any symbolic meaning? I have no idea.--The green also permeated to competitor Q&A sites as well.Microsoft's Live Q&A: Amazon's AskVille:

What is the worst answer on Yahoo Answers ever?

Here are some that I found. I’m actually scared that some people are this dumb, I mean, is this what humans have come to? I’m not very impressed… but these questions/answers are funny.

What led to the downfall of Yahoo answers?

Yahoo answers was generic Q&A or rather reached a generic level where there was 1) lot of spam2) Too little gratification for content creatorsthis lead to lesser usage for the same reason they even don't have a mobile app for the same.Quora on the other hand has more mature questions, is more social, has better recommendations and gratification. It is also entering the zone of so many users and problem of ever increasing spam. As long as it can maintain the relevance and good recommendations it will sail through. You can ask same question and yahoo answers and compare responses :)

How do you explain the downfall of Yahoo Answers?

Lets see: As a Y!A user myself which I have had since 2007. It was great when I first joined but the many unfair false violations (innocent posts getting reported whereas the real violations are not)! was the first thing that was the downfall of Y!ATaking things like 360 page awayGLITCHESChanging the layout to purple one! very very badThen they went and suspended me, not looking into what was actually going on! and so could not get my account back.Taking things off like email.Letting trolls get away with things also letting users who harass get away with that.Having Marissa Mayer as CEO she did nothing to make it better..it got much worse.Making users go anon like some are ok BUT a lot go anon to harass..one reason why I have made an account here as still use Y!A but am getting very fed up with these anon clowns who think they can get away with harassing other users.Had to be taking over by another company coz of the haking and that! (whoops forgot to put power on to charge battery) so could have lost all this but phew it’s still here :)And many more things wrong with this site.
