What Happened To The 2013 Farm Bill Why Is There A Dispute

What is the dispute between india and wto over agricultural issue?

India is giving a vast amount of subsidies and stockpiling buffer stocks in its FCI go-downs to its people. This is affecting the world in two ways1) Because of the subsidies given by India to its citizens , No other foreign company/FDI can have a fruitful business in India(as they cant sell even cheaper than subsideized food, doing so is just a loss to them)2) Because of the Minimum Support Prices(MSP) Indian farmers are more attracted towards only food grains which implies rise of our buffer stocks . Because of this , India is dumping its excess stocks into International Markets which is a big loass to global competetiors. The same is applicable to some other countries like India.(mostly Developing Nations)   So inorder to check these issues, Developed world(global markets are theirs mostly) and WTO are urging India to restrict its food subsidies to 10% of total buffer value and also to reduce its stockpiles. However India just started National Food Security Act and cant compromise to reduce both.    This point was made clear by India at the Bali Conference in December,2013. After negotiations both W TO  circles and India came to an agreement that no one will disturb India on this issue till 2014. and promised that a permanent solution to this issue shall be framed soon. All is well till here.Turning Point:      In the same Bali conference, Trade Facilitation Agreement(TFA) for an easy trade world wide has also been declared. India is in favour of this also and agreed to sign before deadline i.e; July2014. However till now there is no move by the WTO/Developed nations/US towards framing the guidelines for a permenant solution to subsidies issue and insted they are first urging us to sign TFA.      India is aware that once if we sign TFA we shall be obliged to ease our trade at anycost under which circumstances we will/may be forced to giveup/reduce our subsidies etc . So we are saying " First to deal with the issue of permenant solution to subsidies/stockpiles/agro issues and then we will sign." Mean time the dead line ended and unluckily we are having less support. This is the current contention between India and WTO

What are the pros and cons of the Land Acquisition Act (2013)?

Land acquisition is mainly for these govt sectors, not Corporates 1. Defence:For troops, storage of missiles etc 2. Rural infrastructure: Govt Schools& Hospitals,Transformers, pumping stations etc 3. Affordable housing:Every Indian rich or poor should have own home, to reduce urban slums 4. Industrial corridors:Corridors set up by the govt& govt  undertakings for job creation and the farmers to sell their producePriority of Acquisition: ----------------------------- 1. First Govt owned land to be used for projects 2. Next waste land 3. If the above two don't work, only then farmer land will be acquired.  Current Situation: ------------------------ Developmental,infrastructure &industrial projects worth crores of rupees are delayed due to hurdles in land acquisition.  This deprives millions of landless people of job opportunities and forces them to migrate to urban slums to look for livelihood Benefits to farmers: --------------------------- 1. Farmers get 4 times the value of land as compensation 2. Authorizes farmers to sell their properties at the price set by them 3. They don't fall a prey to real estate speculators 3. One govt job for one person in the family who has given their land 4. Most small farmers are looking for other sources of income as they are not able to feed their familyBenefit to nation in general: ------------------------------------ Expedition of infrastructure projects, like railways, highways &power plants Millions of young people get jobs, mainly in rural area, stops migration Solves the biggest problem of agriculture:Irrigation-which can stop farmer suicidesWho it does not benefit??? ---------------------------------- 1. Land sharks and land mafia who don't want to let go of their land 2. Politicians calling themselves "farmers" and owning huge amount of land 3. NGOs who dont want this country to develop Now you know why Political parties are opposing it!
