What Happens At Comic Cons And Expos

What happens at Comic-Con?

There are a lot of cosplayers, a lot of new information such as trailers, insides, different fan meetings. I like FanX Comic Con because I can meet a lot of famous people there. Last time was really awesome! Highly recommend to visit any Comic con. It’s a great show.

What should I expect from a MCM comic con?

I have never been to a convention outside the States, but really all nerdy conventions follow the same formula. From the looks of it, the convention seems to have a bit of a focus on comic books and whatnot, but it is common for people to dress as anime characters, and the same way around for anime focused conventions. There's really no such thing as wearing the wrong kind of cosplay at a comic book/anime convention. They're all a celebration of pop culture.

As for selling anime and merchandise, Im not sure what it is called there but here we call it the "Dealer's Room". I do not have any doubts that your convention will have a large room all set up for all sorts of merchandise, not just anime dvds and mangas. And in this room, it is very likely there will be yaoi stands, most likely needing an adult ID in order to browse through the more risque stuff. Yaoi is an interest that is shared by many cosplayers and anime enthusiasts, regardless of ethnicity.

Hope this helps you a bit!

What's it like to attend Comic Con?

It's  a circus, really, where everyone who attends has the chance to participate. It fills the halls and the stairwells, spills out onto the sidewalks and streets, jams every corner with the bizarre and  unexpected. It's a whirlwind of color and sound. It's massive and  throbbing with life. It's the bar in Star Wars where people from many  worlds and time periods collide. It's green hair and ray guns, steel claws and robots, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones, Goth and Middle-earth. It's every genre imaginable colliding and reforming into something  completely new. It's manic. It's glorious. And I wish that everyday life  embraced more of the freedom of imagination that's kindled there.A few words of advice:1. Wear comfortable shoes. Nuff said.2. Plan ahead of time and be prepared to wait in line. Look at the schedule and figure out exactly what you MUST see. If it's a panel, get in line at least 2 hours before it starts. If it's in the 6,000 seat Hall H, get in line at least 6 hours ahead. People camp overnight for Hall H. I got in line at 5am for the Doctor Who panel that started at 12:30pm and was one of the last people they let in the door.  If there's something on the floor you want to see, go there as early in the con as you can because you may never make it there later.3. Be prepared for sensory overload.4. A masquerade tip. If you want to see the masquerade but don't care if you sit up front, avoid waiting in line all day by showing up just before it starts. There are always seats left in the back and you can walk right in. And there are huge video screens throughout the hall.5. Bring snacks and water. Sometimes it's impossible to get to food if you're waiting in line or running from one place to the other.6. Bring a poster tube.7. MAKE FRIENDS!! My experience at Comic-con over the years has gotten more fun because I now run into people I know. If there's something in particular you are a huge fan of, hang around the booth a while and talk to people. Get cards. Give cards. Talk to people while you're waiting in line. Comic-con is a huge gathering of geeks if nothing else, and you can always find someone who shares your interests. 7. Don't expect to see everything. Don't even try.

What is the difference between comic cons?

Size and scope. The smallest cons concentrate mainly on comic book, the larger one on anything dealing with fantasy and science fiction.

The two that you mention are both London based comic cons. I'm not familiar with either. I assume they were put together by different people, so the basis for the cons are different.

Most comic cons have comic book dealers and may have guests from the comic book industry. If they are a really small comic con, there may be no guests at all. A lot of comic cons will have some sort of viewing area for cartoons and anime. Larger comic cons will have guests from a few different comic book publishers (artists and writers usually). Sometimes guests from other media are present (books, TV, Movies). The dealer room is also larger with a larger variety of vendors.

At the largest comic cons, you will find a lot more. More celebrities from the comic book industry and from other media. There will be a lot of different talks and seminars, and panel discussions. Movie previews and some have 24 hour video viewing. There is a lot more that goes on at the largest cons.

If you are interested it's better that you actually go to one, at least once.

What is your favorite comic con to attend and why?

I’ve actually unfortunately never been to one! Largely because I worked in restaurants for much of my life, either money or scheduling was tight, precluding a trip. Now that I have unclipped my wings, so to speak, it's a dream I’d like to make reality in the future.I would likely first head to a smaller market Con, just to get my feet wet. Pittsburgh, where I used to live, would be a likely selection, but a lot of it would depend on when I was in the States.

Anime expo, Comic con, and Blizzcon Ideas?

Oh I totally understand you on this. I'm going to comic-con as well and all my favorite characters are boys :/.

Also, yes- you can make an OC (original character) or just look like an anime character too. Some people go in maid dresses, lolita, etc. but aren't a particular character. Along with this, you don't have to cosplay either!

Red-
Shana (Shakugan no Shana), has a small bust.
Koizumi Risa (Lovely Complex), is really tall.
Gou (Free!)
CUL (Vocaloid) Not an anime.
Asuna (Negima)
Sorry, there's not many red headed anime girls out there- I was gonna recommend Bellows from Suisei no Gargantia, but she has huge boobies.

Pink-
Lucy (Elfen Lied)
Luka Megurine (Vocaloid) Not an anime.
Sakura (Naruto)
Lala (To Love Ru)
Lizbeth (SAO)
Yui (Angel Beats)
Madoka (Madoka Magica)
Masami (Angel Beats)
Teto (UTAU) Not an anime.

Black Heart (Hyperdimension Neptunia) Revealing outfit, just warning you.
Shiro (Deadman Wonderland)

Hellscythe (Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?)

Orange-

Kanako (oreimo)
Ayano (Lucky Star)
Asuna (SAO)

Why do so many of my nerd friends get laid at Comic Con?

Because sci-fi/fantasy/popculture nerds are usually carrying around a ton of pent up sexual energy. They may not get much action out in The World, but at ComicCon, where anybody can be anything they want, confidence levels jump, and people be getting their freak on. in hotel rooms, in bathrooms, under tables, inside booth backrooms. Many moons ago, my guild and I decided to all get together at an EverQuest convention in Boston. About 25 of us went. I drove down with my roommate’s wife and a couple of other women. So I’m sharing a room with 3 women, because we could only get a single room. No biggie, we’re all adults, we can manage 3 nights.Long story short, in addition to fucking all three of the women i travelled with, there was a party in our guild leader’s suite with him, his wife, and just about everybody from the guild who’d made it to the con, and a couple of strays we picked up during the day. It was a good time, but once the party thinned out to about a dozen people, it went to triple-X rated. A bowl of condoms was put in the middle of the floor, and we were just going at it. No dude-on-dude, but plenty of girl-on-girl, 2-girls-on-1-guy, 2-guys-in-one-girl, it was incredible. I would finish, toss the condom in the trash, have a quick rinse/wash in the bathroom, and then come out to flop on the couch to catch my breath, and one of the women would just start sucking me to erection again. It was an amazing night, one that got repeated about every 6 months for the next couple years whenever we’d have a guild getaway.Oh. DoubleTree Orlando, August 2008? Sorry for the mess.

Why doesn’t comic con come to Canada?

There are many conventions in Canada, though they aren’t hosted by CCI. Comic Con International hosts three conventions in California only. Check out Fan Expo for some quality Canada cons. There’s also a few listed on Wikipedia. Not every company can go to every location on earth. Most cons are regional. CCI, Wizard World, Matsuri, etc tend to be American based. Supanova is Australia. Creation is America and Canada. Fan Expo is Canada. Etc etc etc. It depends on the company. So it’s unfortunate if you want to attend a CCI event in Canada, but it’s not unusual for certain companies to be region specific.
