What Happens If I Strain My Eyes Alot

Is eye strain permanent?

I have been struggling with eye strain for 5 years or so and wondered if I ever can get rid of it permanently?
I used to game a lot in a dark room with with a bright screen for 5 years ago when i was 12, but as u can understand I quit that a long time ago and yet my eyes are burning & hurting..
Now I use the computer about 3-4 hours a day, completely normal for a teenagar..

I went to my doctor and he said that i should take breaks from tv and computers, (which i knew myself) and this of doesn't help. One more thing, recently I have been reading about bacterial conjuctivitis and wonder if that could be the cause to why i am not getting rid of these eye problems. . .

do you think I can get rid of the problems if I stay away from computers, tv and my cell phone for a week?

Computer Eye Strain?

Eye Strain is caused by straining...obviously.

How to alleviate that:

Every hour take a break and look out into the distance for two or three minutes. That means as far as you can see...try to find the horizon. If there is a window to look out of, that works. Even better, get up from the desk, walk around for a few minutes, maybe even go outside, and look out into the distance.

Another technique that works very well is to close your eyes and make a cup with your hands and put each up to each eye [do not actually touch the lids].

With your elbows resting on the desk or table, just relax your head and neck and eyes. Just a minute or two can help.

Try varying the activity, so you don't look to obvious.

I have a tendency to eye strain also. I think it happens more when we are tired, fatigued (from looking at the screen for too long) or anxious.

There are rarely simple answers to questions regarding the body and the psyche and the emotions. We are all very complex organisms with hearts, minds, bodies, spirits and souls!

What happens if you spend way too much time on the internet?

You can acquire bad posture, which will hurt you in the end. Since your on it for such long periods of time without long proper breaks, the strain on your eyes will affect your vision sooner or later. If you type for long periods of time without proper form/posture you may get carpel tunnel, which affects the hands.

In order too take care of yourself so you have better chance of being healthier in the long run, take breaks for atleast 2-3 hours, as though the internet seems so addicting to you, dont think this will be an easy feat but as a good one at that. To relieve the dry/straining to your eyes, plug your computer to a bigger screen and so your eyes dont focus so much into little texts such as this one.

There are many other things that may happen, but those are the obvious.

Hope this gives a sense of what might happen.

What happens when you squint to much?

I recently broke my glasses and I’m not getting new ones for another month, don’t really have the time yet. My prescription or vision is -1.75, which is really bad right? I have to squint at the board to be able to see the words. When I sit in the back I have to squint as well, and sometimes when I sit in the back and squint I still can’t make out the words, and if I can it is just barely. I was wondering how bad my eyesight is which -1.75, and why I have to squint even when sitting near the middle rows. I don’t sit in the front for any of my classes I have to squint most of the day at school. I was also wondering what will happen if you squint to much, I have to squint to see. I squint a lot when I don’t have my glasses and I’m not going to have them for a month. My friends and peers always compliment my eyes so I don’t want to look like I need to sit in the front without my glasses. Whhat happens when you squint to much?? What should I do??

My eyes hurt when using my laptop!?

Anti-glare on modern screens makes no difference , its not like the very old CRT monitors.

You need to follow all the tips for reducign eyestrain - keep screen at arms length with eyes level with teh top of teh screen. Don't have light in front or behind you. Make sure you look up every half hour, take breaks and preferably just use your distance vision. Also get an eyetest. Even marginal problems make a big differenece on computer screens.

16 hours is too long to spend on a laptop though. Note that big companies simply dont' allow this. If you job requires that sort of use you get a seperate keyboard and/or a seperate screen for the laptop as its not possible to adjust a laptop properly to reduce eyestrain and other problems.

How can I relieve/reduce eye strain during/after extensive reading?

I don't get a lot of time to read, but when I do, I read a lot. I've had time off for Thanksgiving and read two books (and I started another one today). I want to read as much as possible because I know I wont have time later, but I'm getting pretty bad eye strain and as a result, a pretty bad headache. Should I just stop reading for a few days and let my eyes recover? How can I help this? and, what are some of the best things to do to relieve or reduce eye strain in the future?
