What Happens If I Use Ethnic Hair Color On Non-ethnic Hair

What happens if I use ethnic hair color on non-ethnic hair?

I am white and i just bought Optimum brand Amla Legend Miraculous black oil dul defying hair color. I bought it because it is temporary for 20 washes, and i didn't want anything more than that. I know that it contains amla oil, and that that is used to smooth ethnic hair. I am concerned that it will make my hair too oily because its not intended for hair that is not coarse. Will it do something odd to my hair?

Is it bad that I use ethnic hair dye?

Afro texture hair is actually delicate and can break easily, so extra care should be taken when combing or styling. To ask your question yes you can use the dye.

You can use any ethnic product,I know white people who use dark n lovely to straighten their hair.I know Hispanics with straight hair that use oil sheen and clairol textures and tones.Just because the product has a black woman on the cover doesn't mean your hair will react badly to it. Everybody's hair is different.People have different types of hair. The trick is to find something that's good for your hair and not "white" hair.

What does it mean to have ethnic hair?

My hair has been a nightmare most of my life, its a constant battle. I don't have bad hair days (b/c that's the normal), I have good hair days that happen once in a blue moon. I used to try and straiten it and tame it, now I want to go with it but I want it to look decent!!! The salons are so used to thin silky fine textured hair it seems

I've been told that I have ethnic hair or hair more ethnic than Caucasian. I was wondering anybody else has this and has some tips to share? Any great products you've found?

I'll describe my hair
It's thick for every 1 hair an average person has I have 2-4 hairs
It feels rather like animal hair, a horse mane perhaps
Its wavy/curly though if long the weight can pull it somewhat straighter and I have bizarrely woken up with strait hair a couple of times
It doesn't really get oily just dry, so I can go 1-2 weeks without washing it maybe longer but I feel weird about going longer
It's better when I don't wash it and I've been told not to wash it much
It doesn't tangle easy despite how it looks lol
It frizzes
It dries out on the ends I mean they get crisp
It absorbs moisture to a freakish degree
It's strong and despite looking like **** its healthy
When I go to the salon if I don't get just a trim it gets messed up, I want an interesting style and there always stumped as to what do with my hair and pretty much assume nothing can be done but should I be trying salons more used to ethnic hair? Or mixed hair? I am also tired of them thinning it out so much b/c they have something against thick hair
If I dye it, it always turns much much darker
If I straiten it professional with their best stuff the longest it's ever stayed that way is 3 days. But I haven't been using straighteners for ethnic hair
I just started using shampoo/conditioner for Asian hair and that seems to be working better than other stuff I tried

Anyone else have hair like this? And what exactly is ethnic hair? Does it just refer to African hair or other hair types not like Caucasian hair? Also b/c I can't wash it much, how when I go to parties should I get the smell of smoke out without having to shampoo it up?

What happens if I use 40 developer with black hair dye ?

Good grief, don't do that.

You should use nothing more than 20 volume developer for dark color.

Edit - Do I need to supply a picture of my license? 40 volume developer is meant to be used with high blond color - such as platinum blond, or possibly bleach (although it must be used cautiously with bleach). You want to deposit color - not take it away. Therefore, you want to use a low volume developer.

.

Can I use African American hair color (dye) even if I'm Caucasian?

You probably can! Just because its a "black" product doesn't mean you cannot use it. Black women use "white" products all the time. But just because the product has a black woman on the cover doesn't mean your hair will react badly to it. Every body's hair is different. Just like white people have different types of hair, so do black women. The trick is to find something thats good for your hair and not "white" hair.

P.S. The only difference between black and white hair is the curl pattern. Just like how white people's hair can range from very straight to very curly to almost kinky, so can black hair.

Look up product reviews of the product you want to use and you'll never know how anything will work unless you try. :)

What would happen if i put blonde dye on black dyed hair?

If you put regular blonde dye on the black..nothing will happen.
BUuuuut if you get a bleach..and put it on the black..then it will turn orange.
I went from Black to bleach blonde...i bleached my hair 4 timez within a month and it went blonde.
then a couple months later i bleached it one more time and now i'm bleach blonde:P

Bleaching you're hair alot within the same month is a bad idea if you're very sensitive. like lots of people have horror stories about their hair falling out, or like ...getting a bad rash etc.
but for me that didn't happen becuz my scalp isn't super sensitive:D

Best curl relaxers for non ethnic hair?

I had EXTREMELY curly and frizzy hair. Even though I know it would be best to see a professional about this, however I am considering doing it myself. I need suggestions for a relaxer. I have color treated hair (that has not been colored in two months), fairly healthy hair that is also rather coarse.

Suggestions?

What color can you dye black hair without bleaching it?

Certain hair dyes can add tones to black hair. Very few people have true black hair i.e. a level 1. So, if you consider the kind of black hair that most have, yes, you can add tones of blue, purple or red to it. These tones are usually most visible in sunlight. Even otherwise, such dyes enhance the depth of black hair and give it some dimension. You can refer to this article to see the effect of blue black hair dye on black hair Review: L’Oreal Superior Preference in Black Sapphire I have experimented with a deep plum and blue black on my naturally black hair to cover greys, and I have been quite satisfied with the hint of colour my hair takes on each time. I don’t use bleach at all.

When coloring brown/black hair to burgundy/red what developer do you use? Do you have to strip the hair of color prior to dying?

This question really shows the need to either consult a well trained, licensed colorist or at the very least, thoroughly read the instructions that come with any dye purchased.A lot will depend on the exact color one is starting with. How dark, how light, previously dyed to that color or natural, healthy or damaged, what undertones, etc. Then it will depend on what dye is being used. Lighter or darker than the natural hair, direct dye or mixed dye, box kit or beauty supply or professional.Striping the hair is only used for specific situations, though is generally not advised in many dye jobs.Box kits come with a developer that is meant to be used with the dye included, and are designed to be used a specific way. They are designed for the masses, with the developer needed to achieve something like the results on the box for most people, if they follow the directions completely and read all the warnings.Beauty supply dyes can vary, though again all come with directions, suggestions, and warnings that should be read completely before attempting.Professional dyes may come with fewer explicit directions since they are not meant to be sold to the general, uneducated public. Professional dyes are sold with the assumption that the user has been educated in their use and knows the variables that can effect application, use, and results. So the best way to answer this is to either read the included instructions and warnings, or seek professional assistance.
