What Happens If You Stabbed Yourself In The Pulse Area Of Your Throat

What happens if you stabbed yourself in the pulse area of your throat?

If you slice an artery like that, you will almost always bleed out and die in minutes. Primary cause of death would be blood loss. Some people can also die from shock too.

Bleeding in the limbs can be easily stopped, and sometimes bleeding in the chest and abdomen can be stopped by trained professionals with proper equipment. Major lacerations to the neck are another story.

Difficulty with the neck is that you can't just stop the flow or you'll strangle them. Stopping a sliced artery from bleeding requires *lot* of pressure. It might be able to happen if the person has tubes in them, but they almost always die before they even get to the stretcher.

If they do get stabilized, doctors would probably have to make sure enough blood is getting to the brain. If both arteries are sliced, I don't know of anything to treat that.

My stomach really hurts could I have poisoned myself??????

Trying to put it on a fever blister? It's shouldnt kill you, but dont chance it. Call poison control

Where are the major arteries that if severed would cause a person to bleed out?

In theory any blood vessel of any size, artery or vein, can cause you to bleed out (bleed to death). The larger the vessel the faster it bleeds and the bigger the problem. So gun shot wounds that sever the big internal arteries will kill you rather quickly if nothing is done about it. Arteries and Veins in the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis can be quite large and you can't put pressure on them to stop the bleeding (Hollywood movies aside).A blood vessel in an arm or leg can cause you to bleed out. They have a mechanism where they spasm and clot off but this is not reliable. The good news is that firm pressure on one of these blood vessels will control the bleeding. Sometimes it might take a very tight, exceedingly uncomfortable tourniquet to accomplish this.I am always shocked (I am not sure that the right word) when someone cuts a large bleeding vein are artery and the just run around screaming and doing nothing. Most time just putting a finger on it will accomplish this. The interesting scenarios are elderly people who have a varicose vein suddenly bleeds. They are so easily treated with simple finger pressure then usually they stop on there own in 30 minutes. Usually people panic then bleed on the carpet then bleed in the car freaking out. I have yet to see someone bleed to death from a varicose vein but I am sure that in the history of mankind it has happened.Nose bleeds are problematic. The ones in the anterior part can be treat with pressure but the posterior ones are too far back and the blood goes out the nose and down your throat. I have never had anyone bleed to death from this but I have had to transfuse many of these patients.Scalp wounds, even veins, can cause massive loss quickly. Most people wrap some sort of bandanna or turban around it which is marginally helpful whereas finger pressure works well. Finally, bleeds from tonsil surgery are a big problem. You can bleed out and its very hard to control. Always seek care.

Heart palpitations during the night?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever had this experience. About 3 weeks ago, I woke at about 1am with a very odd pain in my throat that stabbed once, then went. I lay awake for about 5 mins, the pains were getting worse, happening every few seconds and took my breath away. I got pain in my left arm, my jaw, shoulders and my chest. My heart started beating really fast and hard. This lasted for about 5-7 mins and then my heart gradually slowed. I was in pain the next day with my arm still. I went to the Dr who told me it was a panic attack - though I have had panic attacks before and they have felt nothing like that.
Last night, the same thing happened - weird throat pain followed by a racing heart, though I sat up in bed and it went very quickly compared to last time. I am getting a little concerned now about going to bed, which is probably making things worse. Its quite a horrible experience and one I would like to avoid. Any ideas?
For information - I am female, 27, I have an anxiety disorder which has just forced me to give up work but I am not on any meds. I am an ok weight. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sharp stabbing pain in chest?

Sounds like a gastric problem to me but if I were you I would definitely see a doctor to rule out other serious possibilities. And do you suffer from moderate to severe anxiety? Also is the pain you are experiencing following a pattern or routine? Like does it start at a particular time of the day, etc?
