Is it possible to read a 400-page book in one day?
I have a 13-year-old daughter who has a voracious appetite for reading. She reads a couple of books a day (couple hundred pages an hour, may be more). I consider myself a reasonably fast reader and she reads 6 times as fast as me. She retains information just as well as I do despite her speed (I know this because I'll often quiz her about the content). She recently told me that she's read every fiction book in her middle school library. She reads them during breaks at school, in between classes, lunch, on the bus ride home, etc. It's fun watching her eyes dart around when she's reading. She started a blog a year ago (PriyankaReads) where she shares book recommendations with others - I think it takes her longer to write each of her blog posts than it does to actually read the books.Regarding her reading speed, She took a quick test at my asking (Speed Reading: Test Your Reading Speed) and clocked in at 1872 words/minSo it's certainly possible - I could do it in a day, but I know someone that routinely does it in an hour or two** Wow - close to 2 years and almost 10K up votes later, readers here are still offering positive comments and feedback! For those that have inquired, Priyanka is still just as prolific a reader as she was when I originally wrote this answer. She has kept up her blog as well. Demands of high school have meant that she doesn’t write as many book reviews as she used to, but she still tries to whenever she can make time for it. She has over 225 book reviews on her blog now. Many of you have visited her blog and left her positive feedback there, which has served to encourage her to continue reading and blogging. Many thanks!
How long will cooked chickpeas last in the fridge?
I soaked and cooked some chickpeas 2 weeks ago. I used half of them and left the other half in the fridge. I want to use them to make some more hummus but everywhere I have read on the internet says they only last a few days cooked in the fridge. It's bee 2 weeks but they smell and look completely fine. Should I use them or not?
Is this what your first period should look like? (PLEASE READ BELOW)?
Yes you are. Menstruating for the first time starts as a brown color sometimes. The stomach ache, lower back pain, and vomiting are all symptoms of the period. If you ever get cramps or a really back stomach ache or back ache, I suggest lying flat on the floor with your legs straight up against the wall. It puts pressure on your abdomen muscles and your cramps etc. temporarily go away.
If a contact's last seen on WhatsApp has not changed in days, but has been online since tn(calling) does that mean they changed their privacy setting?
If a contact’s last seen on WhatsApp hasn’t changed in days, it means they haven’t been online since then.Online and last seen tell you if your contacts are online, or the last time they were using WhatsApp.Online means that contact has WhatsApp open in the foreground on their device and is connected to the Internet. However, it does not necessarily mean they have read your message.Last seen refers to the last time the contact used WhatsApp. Through our privacy settings, you have the option to control who can see your last seen. Please note you cannot hide your online.WhatsApp essentially has 2 privacy settings for last seen.. Either you see a ‘Last Seen’ or you don’t.Here’s what the WhatsApp FAQ’s have to say about their privacy settings.By default, WhatsApp will automatically set your privacy settings to allow any WhatsApp user to view your Read Receipts, last seen, profile photo and status. If you don't share your last seen, you won't be able to see other people's last seen.Note: There is no way to hide your online status. To change these settings, simply open WhatsApp > Settings (Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Settings) > Privacy Settings. You can set the following options separately for last seen, profile photo and/or status.EveryoneYour last seen, profile photo and/or status will be available to all WhatsApp users. My ContactsYour last seen, profile photo and/or status will be available to your contacts from your address book only.NobodyYour last seen, profile photo and/or status will not be available to anyone. If you turn off Read Receipts, your contacts will not see two blue check marks next to messages that they send you. You will also not be able to see your contacts' Read Receipts.Note: Read Receipts are always sent for group chats, even if you turn off the option in your privacy settings.Hope this helps!
Have you READ the davinci code? If so did you like it and how long did it take you to read it?
Yes, I read it. I thought it was a good tale and it took a couple of days to read. I probably could have gone thought it quicker, except I kept looking up stuff on the Internet and at the local library as I read the book. It does make a big difference, for example, if you can look at a picture of the "Last Supper" when th book is talking about the painting. There are many other examples where this extra info helped.
What verb should I use with the phrase "these past few days"?
The tense you should use is the Present Perfect Continuous e.g. I have been working a lot these past few days. The reason? "These past few days" implies a period of time that has not finished yet. For periods of time that have not yet finished, the Present Perfect or the Present Perfect Continuous are the tenses to use.
Why does motivation not last more than 2-3 days? How can I make it permanent?
Lots of fancy answers already. But I want to enlighten a different aspect of it. Motivation is a state of mind. It can't last forever. Note down your state of mind on any random day in your life. At some time you would have been sad, at other time happy, motivated, tired or disappointed. Not everything will happen in this world in the way you want it to happen. Whenever things don't go your way, you feel negative. But you can't help it. That's why you have to grow up. You have to understand that being motivated every time is not a solution for reaching your destiny. If you want to do something great in life, then you have to work for it everyday. And then to complete your work, you have to be workaholic. Your work should be the part of your daily routine. You have to modify your routine for it. Once it is a part of your routine for 2-3 months or so, then you will not require motivation to do it. After all you don't have to be motivated to swallow your meal 3 times a day, because it is a part of your routine."Stay hungry, Stay foolish" -Steve Jobs.P.S. - I am not motivating you. I am just saying that you need to change your routine. Stephen Punwasi has already written tricks on how to change your routine.
40 weeks pregnant and having stabbing pain in vagina, Please Help!?
I'm 40 weeks, 3 days and have been having this pain the last couple of days.Obviously I have yet to go into labor. I would say that this could be a sign that you are getting ready for labor, but I don't think it's that reliable. I've also looked it up and found nothing about it. I'm not really sure why I keep getting it, but my guess is that the baby is hitting your cervix because he or she is sitting so low and causing the sharp pains. It could also be that you are thinning out and dilating because you are so close to delivering! Either way it's a good sign. Hopefully you go into labor soon :) Congrats and good luck!
