Whatever makes you confident. There's nothing wrong with wearing a dress. It's a piece of clothing just like everything else you wear. Jeans are just too common and sometimes you need to spice up your wardrobe a bit so I say go for it!

If you are 100% confident that you are going to wear sweatpants the rest of the year, and that is the impression that you want to put forward, then you should have no qualms with wearing sweatpants on the first day.
