If you had to pick one album that would sum up the essence of New Wave/Alternative , which one would you pick?

For me, it would be Yaz "Upstairs at Erics" for its early techno touches (synthesizer, use of sound effects, bridges which are essentially mini-dramas rather than true bridges), and the weird experimental song (of which I do not remember the name, only that it was bizarre and according to my HS friend "only understandable under the influence of acid."I listen to the song "Bad Connection" now and am amazed at how modern it seemed then and how antiquitated it seems now. The idea that the singer was pleading for the operator to to connect her to the telephone line is so ancient, but a real thing in the early 1980s."Don't Go" and "Only You" are just straight up good songs, sung by a great bluesy voice whose emotional style perfectly offsets the completely unemotional quality of the synth, which produces pure notes almost entirely devoid of emotional hooks or emphasis. Did they not know how to inject emotion into the synth, because the technology was so new? If not, they needed Alison's passion to lend a human quality to their sound. And who could forget that weird album cover? For fun and retro-enjoyment, here is one of my favorite tracks from the album - "Nobody's Diary". Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to light up a clove cigarette and crack a wine cooler in honor of it all:

If you had to listen to one band forever, which one would you pick and why?

Green Day, anyday! It is one band you can listen to when you’re sad, depressed, furious, overwhelmed, in-love and basically in any mood of yours because their songs are just so amazing and relatable. Never gets monotonous. It is one band that makes you think. No, they’re not a political band. Everyone loves music. Now Green Day is a band that makes amazing music and at the same time, also makes you aware of the injustice and everything around you. Oh, what could be better?!They’re not really stuck to just one genre. They’ve experimented pretty much and it’s come out great (people might disagree but whatever). They’ve been active for about 25 years now and trust me, neither the band members nor their music has aged. There is nothing like feeling all overwhelmed when your favourite band releases a new album.Unlike quite a lot of bands, they’re probably (pretty sure actually) never gonna split. I have seen how heart broken people get when their favourite bands split up. If you love Green Day, you’d never have that day.Brownie point: Billie Joe Armstrong (the front man) is just so hot. You possibly can’t stop drooling over him. Here is the self made portrait that’s always going to be right on my wall. :’)

What's an album that nobody cares about but which means a lot to you?

A song of Ringo which was included in the Beatles album called Abbey Road. Ringo conceptualized this song while travelling by a boat and the boat manager explaining him about how the Octopuses travel along the sea bed. This was his last song as a lead vocalist for the group The Beatles. Ringo was not a regular singer / song writer. But this is a nice work by him other than in Drum. George gave him some support mainly on chords progression part.Know just Four Chords to play this song !!!This song is jubilant and youthful. Some aggression and some carefree moments of life. Thinking anew and making life comfortable out of all the odds. It’s sound very relaxing !! But surly as underrated as its composer / singer !! So play it loud and say it deserves a big applause.

Doesn't Kelly Clarkson's new song, "Already Gone" sound like something similar?

Hey guys...

I'm listening to Kelly's new song, "Already Gone," and it's super amazing... But it almost sounds like another song. I can't put my tongue on the name of the song, but it really sounds like a song I've listened to before, but it's impossible because it's new. What do you think?

Do you think kelly clarkson copied beyonce's song halo?

Well they sound alike because the background music or whatever was written by Ryan Tedder. Then he gave the music to both Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson. And when Kelly Clarkson realized this, she tried to stop the track from being on her new cd but her exec. wouldn't stop the track from being released.

What happened to backstreet boys?

They never broke up. when they first started it was non-stop making albums and touring and it was very stressful for them. so they took a well needed break after their Black & Blue album and made their return to music around 2004-2005 with the Never Gone album. (they may not be as popular as they were in the 90's) but they are still around making great albums. in 2007 they released Unbreakable (with the exception of kevin) which ended up being an amazing album. you could really tell they put alot of emotion into the album. but since so many people like yourself thaught they broke up, no one really even knew the album was out. and now brand new for 2009 their This Is Us album was released and in my opinion its one their better albums since Millenium.

What is the best album to unwind to?

Is 45 RPM a slow speed for vinyl records?

45rpm is a standard speed for Vinyl Single records, 16rpm is a slow speed for vinyl records but more about that later.RPM is revolutions per minute, the record rotates 45 times on the turntable every minute while the needle stays static, only moving slightly up and down.45rpm is the normal speed that 7” singles played, these would normally have 2 tracks, one on either side of the record.45rpm is also the normal speed that many but not all 12” Singles played (Sometimes called a Maxi Single). Some play at 33rpmSize of 12” Single compared to size of 7” Single - More space on the 12” for an extended version often a different mix of the single and wider grooves for increased bass sound if required.33rpm is the normal speed that 12” albums played, these normally would have 8 to 12 music tracks. A very small % are produced to play at 45rpm for Audio connoisseurs, typically the original album at 33rpm on one 12” disc would be released on 2 45rpm discs for better sound quality when played on specialist equipment. Only acts like the Beatles, Pink Floyd or Blue Note Jazz would ever receive this album reissue treatment or speed. Less than 1% of 12” albums produced play at 45rpm which is very rare and very specialist for albums.33rpm is the normal speed that 7”eps played (extra play), these would normally have 4 tracks.33rpm is also the normal speed that 10” albums played, with normally 8 tracks, these were in vogue from about 1949 to 1959 in parallel with the 12” Album which became the standard size.78rpm was the speed that much older records played. Early American shellac records were all 7-inch until 1901, when 10-inch records were introduced. 12-inch records joined them in 1903. By 1910, other sizes were retired and nearly all discs were either 10-inch or 12-inch, although both sizes were normally a bit smaller than their official diameter. Until Standardization in 1930, European 78 records played a fraction of a revolution slower than 78rpm and American 78s played a fraction of a revolution faster than 78 rpm. There are numerous other odd recording speeds for instance (a recent Jack White disc is played at 3rpm but this is novelty) the very odd audio record played at 16.66 rpm and a handful of old 1950s Jazz LPs, produced by the famous Prestige Jazz Label were produced at this speed. Normally these oddities would be relegated to the dustbin of time but as Miles Davis and John Coltrane featured expect to pay $500 upwards for any in mint condition.
