Why do authors go by their initials?

Different reasons, probably. Here are my thoughts on why:some semblance of privacy. In today’s world, you can’t be too careful.many women authors (particularly years ago) feared they wouldn’t be taken seriously on a subject or as a writer if they used their real female name. Using initials can offset that and then the reader is not sure if the author is male or female. Some do it just as another identity if they write in 2 separate genres or for 2 separate publishers. “Nora Roberts” is herself for one line of books, and she is “J.D. Robb” for another line of books. Not sure why JK Rowling used initials, but she did have a small child at the time. Maybe she wanted more privacy around it. There are a lot of nutjobs in the world and she may have wanted to shield her child from that.My 2 cents. I’d be interested to read other answers too :)

Why do some Indians go by their initials?

The Dravidian Political Movement in Tamil Nadu in the 60's led to the eradication of last names (which usually was their caste name). On one hand, Dravidian party polices especially in reservation for education and employment uplifted the backward, most backward classes, scheduled castes and tribes. On the other hand, they were also very anti-Brahmin, and in general, anti-caste. They saw using caste name as last name was a form of aggression towards lower castes. Hence using your caste name as last name was very frowned upon in those days, and even today. Instead, Tamil people started using the first letter of their father's/spouse's name as their initial(s).Similar peculiarity can also be found in Icelandic Surnames. They use their father's first name as their last name - followed by 'son' for boys and 'dóttir' for girls. (The peculiarities of Icelandic naming)

What band/group name would go along with these initials?

The initials for our group are P.G.T. We just need to know what words would go along with those initials. We're a four-guy group of teens 14-15 years old. We're entering a contest for the B.E.T. Awards, so we really need to get a name. The genres of music we will perform and compose are Hip-Hip, Classical Hip-Hop, A little bit of Rap, & R&B. Please HELP! : ) Thanks!

What do you think about people who go by initials only (like MJ or BJ) and not their given name?

I learned a long time ago not to ask, because people get nicknames for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes they are embarrassing. Sometimes they are long, convoluting stories that are not worth repeating.Maybe MJ is short for Mehrdad Jeorg. I’d want to change it too. Some people don’t like their names, so they shorten it. Sometimes other people don’t like their names either, so they shorten it for them. My sister’s name was Judith, because my mother thought it was pretty. We kids shorten it to Jude. My mother was mortified, but in the end, even she was calling her Jude.Still others acquire a nickname by accident and it sticks. In the service, I was misidentified and got called Truckey. Don’t ask. It stuck. Its just a variation of a name. Try not to judge.

My name is P.N. Pavithran. I have 2 initials, how should I enter that while applying for a passport online in the first name and last name section?

your name P.N.Pavithranfor example let it be your full name as below(by expanding initials)full name= PANDI NARESH PAVITHRANType 1first name/give name = PANDImiddle name/second name = NARESHlast name/surname = PAVITHRANType 2first name/give name = PANDI NARESHmiddle name/second name= Blank( no middle name)last name/surname = PAVITHRANType 3first name/give name = PANDImiddle name/second name = Nlast name/surname = PAVITHRANType 4first name/give name = PANDI NARESH PAVITHRANmiddle name/second name = Blank(no middle name)last name/surname = Blank(no last name)the above mentioned types are only up to my knowledge. you may further enquiry to the passport office regarding this. they can give you a clear idea.my suggestionpeople those who are having first name and last name (or) first name, middle name and last name. then life is so simple. they will never face any problem at any time.but peoples those who are having initials with there name are facing problems like this. the only way to rectify this go for a name change process or expansion of initials. after that stick with one name in all ids.

Getting married and new initials would be A. S. S. Is that okay?

I'm getting remarried and my BF's last name starts with "S". My maiden name is already my middle name and my BF is traditional and expects me to take his last name, especially since I currently have my ex's last name (kept it for the kids but fine with getting rid of it). I have a friend in a similar situation whose initials will be K.K.K. if she marries the guy she's dating. Does anybody care? It seems stupid to me but based on the comments and questions people have asked, it seems to matter.
