What Interesting Books Do You Suggest

Which interesting books will you suggest to a beginner who has just started reading?

Good to know that you are taking and initiative of reading, btw it's never too late to start reading.. So here are my personal favourites that I'd recommend for a beginner. The Alchemists by Paulo CoelhoThe Alchemist is a simple read with hidden meanings. The reason it finds itself on this list is because even with its simple narration, it is a novel you'll be able to truly understand once you're of a certain age.The plot follows the story of Santiago, a shepherd boy, who believes that a certain recurring dream he has been having is a prophecy of some kind. He visits a fortune-teller to ask her about it. She tells him that she seesa treasure in the pyramids in Egypt that Santiago should uncover. On his journey, he meets an old king who tells him of personal legends. "Your personal legend is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their personal legend is," and, "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." To see if this is actually true, give it a read.Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay ArsherThe main character is Clay Jensen, a quiet high school student. He comes home from school to find a parcel at his front door. He does not know who sent it. He opens it and discovers 7 cassette tapes. These tapes are from Hannah Baker, his previous classmate. She had emotional problems and has committed suicide (killed herself). The tapes came with instructions. The paper stated that they should pass the tapes from one student to another student. There are 12 people in total. In the paper, she explains to these people that they helped her die – she gives them 13 reasons. Hannah also sends another set of tapes to a different person. She gives them a strong warning that if they don’t pass the first set of tapes onto the next person, the whole school will know how they were a part of her death. The Old Man and the Sea byThis is a famous classic. This is a story of a long fight between an old, experienced fisherman and the best fish he ever caught. Santiago has returned to the village without any fish for 84 days. The young boy who helps Santiago is told by his parents to join another boat. But the young boy continues to help the fisherman at night.(P.S. These books are very beautiful, easy and quick. Hope you'll like them although The Alchemist is a difficult to understand)

What interesting books do you suggest on the topic of science and spirituality?

On spirituality, I recommend the following :‘’The Celestine Prophecy’’ by James Redfield‘’The Tenth Insight’’ by James Redfield‘’The Prophet’’ by Kahlil Gibran‘’Tao Te Ching’’ by Lao-TzuThe ‘’Conversations With God’’ trilogy, by Neale Donald Walsch (don't jump to conclusions with the title, trust me on this)‘’Joyful Path of Good Fortune’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso‘’The Path to Freedom’’ by Dalai Lama‘’After the Ecstasy, the Laundry’’ by Jack Kornfield.I experienced a spiritual awakening some years back, partly due to reading these books. So much so, that I had to have a spiritual friend help me ground myself. One of the best experiences of my life so far. Every day life tends to get in the way, however, and if you don't keep your learning experiences going, you can become lost again. I keep meaning to pick these books up again. I believe they will jump out at me again when the time is right.Good luck on your spiritual journey of self-discovery!

Suggest me some good English books to read?

Here are some books to get you started. I think you'll like them because not only are they interesting to read, but they have multicultural subject matter (which I look for) and they're short!

Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes - Students in a New York City high school English class start "Open-Mike Fridays" and recite their own poetry / rap. Each chapter is told from a different student. (167 pages) http://www.shvoong.com/books/children-an...

Romiette and Julio by Sharon Draper - This one may be more like the Princess Diaries. An African-American high school girl, Romiette, falls in love with Mexican-American boy, Julio, despite opposition from parents, community, and school gang members. (236 pages) http://www.shvoong.com/books/romance/202...

Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman - Another short novel told in mini-stories. Thirteen folks from different backgrounds transform a trash-filled inner-city vacant lot into a beautiful community garden. (70 pages) http://www.shvoong.com/books/children-an...

If these don't work for you, maybe you can ask your friends who are book worms what books they are reading...

What books do you suggest for a youngster like me?

Depends on how young are you. As a thumb rule, start with a YA genre or any other popular fiction category, if you are between 17 and 24. Then, graduate slowly towards other 'more serious' genre. Either which ways, keep non-fiction til you get older, by which I mean 'late 20s'.
