What Is A Drug To Decrease The Potency Of Risperdol

Does Risperdal Cause Permanent Impotence?

SWIM took risperdal for a misdiagnosis of OCD b/c he had chronic head pain. He was given SSRIs max dose and RIsperal 6mg/day b/c the psychiatrist said nothing worked for the pain and she didn't believe him that it was real. As a result he took the drug for 6 months at the dose mentioned and even lactated on the stuff. He have been off the drug for over a year and claims to be still completely impotent. He was horny as hell before the drug now he claims he feels disconected and says these drugs castrated him. He lived for the orgasms before now he says they are pleasureless. He wants to know if there is a recovery period needed after these drugs to get back to normal or is his condition caused by the psychiatric drug risperdal permanent.

Is it possible to quit risperdal 1mg?

I quitted 1.5 mg direct coz pdoc told me.Second time it was 1 mg direct.Look dear it all depends upon bodies.I can not guarantee that you won't get anything wrong. The most difficult thing is to get away with benzos and I did it by myself.1 mg <<< .75mg(3 days)<<.50mg(3days)<<.25mg(3days) <<0.But psych told me that. Many times we feel like a zombie not due to meds but due to anxiety or depression. Some doctors take alternative such as starting seroquel and abrupt withdraw risperidone.Seroquel gave me more energy but another thing anxiety, and sometimes aggression. You didn't mention your illness. But I would say go to doc not do it by yourself. They know everything about drugs. No one will personally tell you for the sake of your own

Has anyone noticed a difference between risperdal and the generic form of risperdal? Do you think risperdal is better than the generic form?

Absolutely, unequivocally not.Post hoc, ergo propter hoc. (One thing follows another, therefore the first thing caused the second.)I do not dispute that many people have different events happen to them after taking generic Risperdal, and some of these things are really bad, and that’s terrible. But a pill is a vehicle for getting a chemical into your body. To argue that brand name Risperdal is better than generic is to argue that somehow your body knows that the pill’s manufacturer has changed.Brand name pills dissolve in stomach acid just like generic ones do. Anything that happens after that is subject to a thousand other factors that the manufacturer’s identity has nothing to do with.

Stopping Risperdal 2mg cold turkey?

Withdrawal symptoms from antipsychotics may emerge during dosage reduction and discontinuation. Withdrawal symptoms can include nausea, emesis, anorexia, diarrhea, rhinorrhea, diaphoresis, myalgia, paresthesia, anxiety, agitation, restlessness, and insomnia. The psychological withdrawal symptoms can include psychosis, and can be mistaken for a relapse of the underlying disorder. Conversely, the withdrawal syndrome may also be a trigger for relapse. Better management of the withdrawal syndrome may improve the ability of individuals to discontinue antipsychotics.[1][2]

Tardive dyskinesia can emerge as a physical withdrawal symptom, and may either gradually abate during the withdrawal phase, or become persistent.[33] Withdrawal-related psychosis from antipsychotics is called "supersensitivity psychosis", and is attributed to increased number and sensitivity of brain dopamine receptors, due to blockade of dopaminergic receptors by the antipsychotics,[34] which often leads to exacerbated symptoms in the absence of neuroleptic medication.[35] Efficacy of antipsychotics may likewise be reduced over time, due to this development of drug tolerance.[2]

Withdrawal effects may also occur when switching a person from one antipsychotic to another, (presumably due to variations of potency and receptor activity). Such withdrawal effects can include cholinergic rebound, an activation syndrome, and motor syndromes including dyskinesias. These adverse effects are more likely during rapid changes between antipsychotic agents, so making a gradual change between antipsychotics minimises these withdrawal effects.[36] The British National Formulary recommends a gradual withdrawal when discontinuing antipsychotic treatment to avoid acute withdrawal syndrome or rapid relapse.

Which antipsychotic is better, olanzapine or risperidone?

Both are good antipsychotics. Risperidone is more potent, needs only 6–8 mg whereas olanzapine will be upto 20 mg, If you are not obese, not a diabetic, not dyslipidemic and if you want sleep immediately, go for olanzapine. Otherwise risperidone will be better. With higher doses of risperidone, you may need antiparkinson drug as well.
