What Is A Entrepreneurial Statesmen

What is a entrepreneurial statesmen?

OK - I'll do a little of this for you because it's within my political bailiwick.

'robber barons' and I guess in the same vein 'political entrepreneurs' - were the type of people who were already stinking rich, but still couldn't help but be leeches.

They for instance bought up companies during The Great Depression for pennies on the dollar and made another gazillion bucks when WW2 broke out and beyond - good business practice - but 'robbing blind' the people they took advantage of - with no conscience whatsoever - one with such( a conscience that is) couldn't do such things without at least adding a little 'sugar' to the 'robbery'.

Statesmen to this day - almost ALL the 'conservative' type would take advantage of ANYTHING - no matter WHAT it was with a smile, a wink, a handshake and his hand gently in your back pocket removing your wallet without remotely breaking a sweat !!

'organizational revolution' is another term for union-making and boy oh boy was it a deadly business trying to create unions 'in the day' - people got beat up badly - many of them killed by the goon squads hired by businesses to so as such and the gvt stood by and let it happen.

Talk to me about the Reuther brothers who finally got the UAW going - I'm a 49-yr autoworker, active and retired from GM - if I were to be a religious man, I would say 'Thank God for those men' - without them where would we be today -and NOW - union busting is an art form in the 'ways' of the conservative politicians and the rich neo-cons who are systematically destroying all that WAS the USA !!

Why are there so few 20 something entrepreneurs in Seattle?

One reason is that much of the money in the Puget Sound was created by Microsoft not by other successful entrepreneurs. The many early millionaires in the Seattle area became wealthy by virtue of being in the right place at the right time not by their entrepreneurial ingenuity. As a result there is a dearth of start-up mentors/investors willing to take a chance on the next crop of talent. Box.net is a good example of this phenomenon. It was started on Mercer Island by Aaron Levie and Dylan Smith while they were in college. They moved to the Bay area to find money and entrepreneurial community in 2006. We need more successful 30-40 year old mentors (a la Dan Shapiro, Ben Huh etc.) to pour resources into the younger generation to build entrepreneurial momentum and mojo into Seattle. I think we are moving toward this situation as   Amazon grows and the number of tech companies in the area keeps increasing.

Which non-fiction and non-academic (but related to the profession/discipline) books would you recommend to a young civil engineer?

I had written a blog on this question which may be useful to this question. Here is the link. Civil GeekAlso for easy and immediate reference posted part of it———————————————————————————————————————————“A Home without books is a body without a Soul”I owe to my parents who had inoculated me the habit to read newspaper, novels, and books in my teenage age. I am thankful to the teachers and professional mentors for their advice on books to read on Civil Engineering. Even after reading the books they suggested, I realized that I still had a lot to learn. I decided to develop a habit to read one book a month in my professional field of Civil Engineering. Here I give books which every Civil Engineer should read and I prefer to say before graduation. I also added a brief review of each book to make interesting for reading. It doesn't mean you should read these books in the serial order which I said below. Take any book in random and read till the end of the last page. As the adage, “ Don't judge the book by its cover”Let me also clarify that this is not the complete list. Many great books come out every year. These are just the ones that have had the biggest impact on myself and my career. The list is here.Memoirs of My Working Life- Sri Mokshagundam VisvesvarayaThe book deals with the life experience of Sir MV as a Civil Engineer and Statesman. This book tells about his engineering works & contribution towards nation-building was spread across the nation throughout his career spanning over 30 years as an engineer, 20 years as an administrator and 20 years as an adviser & statesman.Cusecs Candidate- Memoirs of an Engineer- Dr. K.L.RaoKanuri Lakshmana Rao, B.E., Ph.D. (born 15 July 1902 - died 18 May 1986) was an Indian engineer and a Padma Bhushan awardee. This books briefs about his life and projects designed and executed by him.——If interested read further in below link Civil GeekHappy Reading!Pa1
