Any good ideas on how to catch a mail thief?
I live way out in the sticks w/no neighbors in site. Over the last few days I've been wondering if some dreg has been stealing my mail. Then yesterday I saw it being delivered and figured I'd take the important stuff and leave the junk mail. Sure enough, it was gone this morning. I'd like to hide in the bushes and sniper the thief with my .223, but that would get me in a heap of trouble. I don't think it's legal to shoot people for stealing mail, even if they are worthless meth-heads. Anyone have a low-tech, legal idea on how to teach these pricks a lesson or catch them in the act that doesn't involve hiding in the bushes for hours on end? Thanks for your time and consideration.

There are a couple of things. You can probably find both at home depot. One is called something like "machinist bluing". It's used to mark steel in a machine shop. If you touch it, it's really hard to get off. You could put it on the doorknob (inside knob would be best) or on the possesions you think are going to be touched. Once they get the blue on their hands they leave fingerprints everywhere they touch. Another, that's easier to find, but makes a huge mess is chalk-line chalk. It's also in the hardware store in a little bottle. It's used for making straight lines on floors and walls. The blue is hard to get rid of, but the red is nearly impossible. It sticks to shoes, fabric, paint, concrete, and even tile. It doesn't wash off easily...especially on porous substances (shoes and fabric). Unfortunately, if they step in it they could track it all over...but then you'd have a shoe imprint to match too.

it just happened few hours ago. I am so frustrated to find out that my favourite new shoes, make ups and mp4 had gone..seem these things has been stolen in hurry, because that evil didn't take my friend's lappy and my handphones that placed a few steps more. Right now, I just only can do some speculation and guessing that evil who stole could be live near just next to my door, cuz that evil able to see somebody is in or out easily. please give me some ideas so that i can plan about busting that evil by tonight. thank u so much

As a practical matter, anything like this would also get on you. Even if "invisible ink," do you really want to get this on your hands, your clothes, etc.? If someone isn't deterred by a sign on the pack that says "property of John Doe -- DO NOT TAKE," then they're being a jerk. I find social pressure works best for rooting out these types. Anyway, a single way to go is to put stickers, that cannot be easily removed, on the cans. Anyone walking around with a can with this sticker...
How can I catch the thief who stole my wallet?
I was in Webster Hall Sunday night at a Matisyahu Concert. I left my jacket behind the speakers, thinking it would be a good hiding spot, but I came back an hour later and all my zippers were open, with my wallet missing. I called the credit card company to cancel my cards but there were already charges worth up to $300 made. There was also $60 in the wallet, and about $100 worth of train tickets. A detective is helping me with this case. He says he will check out any surveillance videos that the place had in order to see who made charges during the same time. Do you think they have surveillance cameras there? I mean, there were a lot of people doing drugs there, and it seemed really shady, yet it is a well-known place which means they should be able to afford surveillance. Any suggestions? What else can I do to help the detective help me?

Set up security cameras. That would be the most simple.The most elaborate way would be to set up a series of contraptions around the targeted area so the thief would have a hard time collected their objective, like Kevin does in Home Alone with the “Wet Bandits”

Apart from installing hidden surveillance cameras to catch the culprit, also use invisible dye upon certain objects especially objects that you can use that invisible dye to write a serial identification number or to prove that the object is owned by you. And thus when the object is missing and is caught in the possession of the culprit, you can of course use a special kind of light to reveal the invisible dye. Another option is probably a little too expensive and far-fetched is to look for those online websites or if you know of a special gadget place that sell GPS trackers, you can conceal one into the object in which you may believe will be stolen and can use a device to find out where it is; or give it to the police for them to do it. Since you might be in the position to spend the money on some good quality hidden cameras which can be concealed into just about anything, such as book binders, toys and smaller objects such as an empty coke can or scrap food packaging. There are also some special dyes as above mentioned that can be transferred when touched by the culprit or any one for that matter, if they pick up an object and place it into their pockets they will have that invisible dye on their hands which can be seen with a special kind of light. Sort of like having fingerprints.
How to catch protein powder thief?
My suggestion: Find a small glass or plastic container, with a different label, preferably a non-food one. Wash and dry it, leaving the original label on, and fill it with your protein powder. Store this little container out of sight. Keep the scoop somewhere else, or use an ordinary plastic spoon with the handle broken off short. When the original tub is totally empty for whatever reason, buy another tub and keep it well hidden. Refill your small camouflage jar from the larger tub when roomie is elsewhere. You may have to change the times when you consume your protein powder, so he never sees you do it. You can casually mention to him that you are thinking of giving up on the protein powder, because it seems to be causing some side effects, and is pretty expensive anyway.
