What Is A Magazine That Tells You About Guinea Pigs

Is it okay if my guinea pig chews magazines?

mine do that, eat paper n stuff

i stop mine when they do it but the allways go back and eat it anyway,

but i dont know if its healthy for them, thats why i stop them doin it.

if ur pig likes to eat stuff like paper, i find giving them the cardboad from a tolite roll, that keeps them happy

My guinea pig keeps eating my magazines!?

He's going to eat them. My guinea pigs always used to eat the newspaper we put under their bedding in their cage. Do you have a cage? If not, you should get a nice big one and fill it with special bedding made for guinea pigs. You can always let him run free outside of the cage for short periods of time to give him freedom without worrying that he'll pee. You could also try putting down old towels instead of magazines because he won't eat the towels.

What can guinea pigs eat?

I am a proud owner of 4 guinea pigs and I learned from a magazine that they LOVE dandelions. My piggies just love them!!! Make sure that nobody has sprayed them. I'm sure your neighbors would be delighted to give you some. You can also give them grass that hasn't been fertilized lately or fresh fruit or veggies. I'm sure that your parents would borrow you money for the sake of your pet.

Can I use ONLY newspaper in my guinea pig's cage?

Yes, newspaper is perfectly fine to put in their cage. Trust me, i have experience from a wonderful exotic vet. She is awesome. When my guinea pig had mites, she said to stop using my carefresh bedding for a while until she's better..and to just use newspaper. No, it is not good for their little feet, but if you maybe put like paper towels under the newspaper and put a bunch of newspaper packed down so it's nice and soft for them. You'll have to change it about once a week or sooner. So,yeah. Newspaper is fine. Also, i didn't know you could use fleece. And the living room and kitchen thing is a great idea. Very clever(:

Well, I hope this helped you

How to convince your parents to let you get a guinea pig?

First of all, believe me, there are thousands of kids out there who want guinea pigs, but who's parents don't like them.
Here are a couple of things you can do (including things that I did when I persuaded my parents to get me a hamster.)
1. Make sure you have the money for everything you need. If you save up the money yourself, then your parents will see that you are committed. make sure that you write down a list of everything you need, and work out the price from there, including the costs of extra treats and a small emergency fund.
2. you say you do your homework every night? well I have a little more homework for you. This almost ALWAYS works on parents. write an essay about the guinea pigs you want to get, find out about the best foods they need, the right kind of cage, there behaviours and manorisms, every piece of information you can gleen from online, magazines, and pet shops. Make the essay as long as you can, and when you are finished, show your parents, and specifically point out the good things about having guinea pigs.
3. Obsess. Get hold of anything guinea pigish, posters, toys, fact sheets, books, eveything and anything, and then spread it all over your room so that when your parents go up, they see how much you love them.
4. this one is more of a 'proof of responsibility' thing, so if your parents already know that you are responsible, then this one can be skipped. make a cage, maybe just out of cardboard, or a wooden box, and find a little toy rodent. tell your parents that for 1 month, you are going to look after this toy, and pretend that it is real to prove to yourself, and to them, that you are a responsible guinea pig owner, and that you wont get bored of it.
4. you said that your friend has guinea pigs? well, MAYBE you could go around to her house one day and ask her very kindly, explaining the situation in detail, if you could maybe look after her guinea pigs for a week, just so that you can show your parents that, they really aren't smelly, or dirty or loud.
5. and finally, and this may be the most important thing of all, DO NOT NAG. parents get annoyed when you nag, and that makes the irrational. Sure, when you pass the petstore, ask your mum/dad if you can go in and see the animals, but don't cling to them and beg. be sensible, and subtle. because subtlety always wins against brute force.

I really hope that you can get a guinea pig soon!
hope I helped!

Is it safe to use shredded paper for your guinea pigs cage?

Money is tight right now and bedding is expensive so I was wondering if I could use the shredded paper that I have. I shred my mail as it comes in and things with my name and such. I know newspapers aren't safe becasue of all the ink they use and magazines aren't safe either. But what about just regular everyday junk mail. Or does anyone have other suggestion for bedding that is cheap or free for an adult guinea pig?

Is newspaper bedding safe for guinea pigs?

Do not use magazines. You can use newspaper if the ink is vegetable based. I don't think you can use notebook paper and I think computer paper is fine because it does not have ink.
You can get kiln dried pine, its usually really cheap but it needs to be kiln dried. Never use cedar.
Lots of people also use fleece, its more expensive at first but its washable and will last for years.

If you use paper or newspaper you will need to change it at least every other day. Kiln dried pine will need to be changed at least once a week and with fleece it depends on if the piggies are litter trained. If they are not litter trained it will need to be replaced 1-2 times a week. If they are litter trained it will only need to be replaced every 2-3 weeks. With fleece you also need to vacuum or sweep up poop every day.

Can dry paint on a cardboard box hurt a guinea pig?

Do you mean the ink that makes the picture? If so, don't worry about it! It's just paper, and will get turned into poop anyways! And trust me, it will not hurt him, and will provide him with an excellent playtoy/hidey. Our guinea pigs are forever nawing magazine pages, which are just like the cardboard pictures, and they're fine!

Or did you paint a picture on it? Again, as long as you ask your mum whether it was non toxic(kids paint almost always is) and not lead based(though you won't find many paints like that anymore, and if you did, I doubt your mum would let you use them!), then this will be fine, too. He may just get a coloured ''bib'' from where he chewed it, but that's all!

I use painted tubes in our cages, and they always get nawed on, and we have cardboard hideys for them as well as wooden ones and fabric ones, as long as he can't get any solid plastic little bits stuck in his throat, he'll be fine, and will appreciate his homemade gift!
