What Is A Wipe And Reload

How to wipe netbook before selling?

Most manufacturers leave some sort of recovery partition on the hard drive...usually accessed by pressing something before Windows loads. (Dell uses ctrl+F11, some use just F8).

If there is not a recovery partition, but you have a recovery disk...you can always use a external floppy or even a USB drive to reload windows.

Cleaning reloading dies, how often do you?

Interesting question that got some decent and some not so decent responses. I reload quite a lot, with the carbide die sets I generally just do an annual tear down, take them completely apart, check the threads, apply a little breakfree, change the primer pin, and put them back in the case. It's like any other tool, just a little preventative maintenance goes a long way.
I have quite a few steel dies that I use in a single arm press and unless I see any residue at the opening or case lube coming out of the vent hole I normally just wipe them with a small cloth and CLP two or three times a year then do a yearly tear down as well.

For the dies I use in the progressive loaders, those get cleaned after every 3000 to 4000 rounds, It's not fun getting a case stuck or having several cases marred or damaged due to debri. Before each use I make sure to check the deprimer tip, make sure the locking ring isn't loose, and when I'm done I try to do a quick visual for any issues. I may be doing more than others but after having some 338-06 cases get a shoulder ding due to a case lube buildup; this little PM program hasn't let that happen again.

If you wipe a hard drive with a magnet, can you reload stuff onto it and use it again? Or is it bricked forever?

Depends on what kind of magnet you use. Many years back at a company long dead I was told to destroy a hard drive. It was a Seagate ST-225. Fond memory of those even with it’s quirky stepper motor architecture. We had a bulk-tape eraser and I used it on the top of the drive. While it was running. We heard a whine and then a skittering noise. I had ripped the top head off the drive and it was bouncing around the enclosure. If I recall correctly the drive was something like five days within warranty and they wouldn’t cover other, more flaky problems with the drive. They replaced it.As for regular magnets they aren’t that reliable. The US government has a requirement that anything that is deleted has to be overwritten three times. Just deleting it and overwriting it with something else doesn’t work. They discovered that the original data could be detected when analyzing the surface of the drive. It’s not easy, but it’s there. There are companies that make lots of money by taking “dead” hard drives and recovering the data off of them.It really comes down to how big of a magnet, how long, and is it an AC electromagnet. AC electromagnets are bad because they are strong magnets that change with the AC mains voltage. 50–60 times a second. There is a reason they are used in bulk tape erasers in that they are pretty good at their job.

Should you wipe your Mac and reinstall OSX every year to keep it from viruses, malware or spyware?

This is one way to help keep your system clean, but a lot of malware can ‘hide’ in a disk and reinstalling doesn’t protect you. It’s a common practice in the industry to replace disks when a computer is found with malware. We do this as part of a forensics response and the disk is used for research and evidence. And if you install a new disk, you now have to worry about malware that might hide in firmware of various possible chips on the motherboard (low probability, but thought you might enjoy this ;-)When Sony was hacked by North Korea, I was at FireEye and the only way to insure a Mac was clean was to get rid of the old Mac and buy a new one, making sure not to copy any files over that weren’t absolutely cleaned through a very complicated process. In addition, there has been several computer manufacturers who had ‘spyware/malware’ installed in new computers (as far as I know, Apple hasn’t been one of them, but if someone knows of an instance, please comment). In the end, assume you are infected. Once a year is too long a time to take a look at your computer. I always reinstall the OS on a computer if the factory installs one. I then lock down the OS based on best practices and the OS I’m dealing with. Next, I create several users and try not to use an ‘admin/root’ level unless needed. Per several researchers, 99% of Windows (yes, I know you are talking Mac) attacks would not work if the user didn’t have administrator privileges. In other words, we always compromise security for convenience.

If i wipe my hard drive will my computer stop freezing?

Its possible a new install of O.S will work. However, ,there a several reasons why your computer is freezing. First question is when was the last time you cleaned your registry. Having a corrupted registry can cause a whole host of errors and problems. Freezing up is one of them. If you have a lot of unnecessary registry keys that are hogging up your computer resources. Your computer is bound to choke. Scan your registry with a good registry cleaner. If you pull up more than 20 errors or duplication, clean your registry.

2. Depending on your RAM specs and your computer usage. This could also be a the issue. Having an insufficient amount of free space does not allow your RAM to function properly. If you are using a lot of RAM by net surfing or other activities without enough empty space your will get freezes. You don't need to buy new RAM but you should increase your free space by removing unnecessary data and perhaps increasing your virtual memory. The below link will show you how.

3. Spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected.

4. That last area is a hardware drivers. This could be the problem if new hardware has been added to the system. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestion and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing.
Check your drivers. Hope this helps.

How do you reinstall Windows 8 on a Nextbook tablet?

Try using an aggressive cleaning software like ComboFix and HiJackThis These are two effective tools to remove all viruses and malware they are what you could call an aggressively deep clean. Download them from another machine put them on a pen and run them. They will probably "fix" all your issues. The other option would be to reset the machine to factory settings."1. Hold down the Volume (+) and the Power button at the same time, until you see No Command on your screen. (The tablet will act like it's going to turn on and go black, continue to hold your buttons until No Command shows up on your screen)2. Release your buttons when you see the No Command appear on your screen.3. Tap the Volume (+) once, and a blue menu will appear on your screen. 4. You will use the Volume (-) to navigate and the Power to select. Tap the Volume (-) until you highlight "Wipe Data Factory Reset"4. Press your Power button to select it. 5.  You will see a list of "No's" and one "Yes." Use the Volume (-) to go to the only YES on your screen. 6. Press your Power button to select the Yes.7. This will prompt your tablet to go through the motions of resetting itself. When you see the words ''Wipe Data Complete", tap your Power button once to select Reboot System Now.8. Your tablet will power off and power back up on its own; this will take a little longer than normal, so give it a couple minutes before it boots."Source: Powered by Kayako Help Desk Software

Does constantly wiping the drive and reinstalling Windows damage hardware components?

NTFS is known to be somewhat questionably tough for a HDD to manage, but at the same time, all the different types of partitions an OS can use will wear down hardware.I can tell you from wiping hard drives in the past and re-using them for different OS types, not really. You can repair any bad sectors with Windows PE tools or other USB tools on the market, and wipe HDD’s constantly without any issues.Just don’t suddenly shut off your PC, or run static electricity, or plug the wrong voltage into your PSU.That’s a much bigger danger! The platter was designed to endure some software errors but physical damage will occur when you are forcing it to halt, or mistreatment physically has happened which would come from “Human Error”.

How do I reinstall Android on my device?

It would have been better if you have provided the brand and model number.Reinstalling android does require some CLI knowledge so be sure if you are comfortable enough using CLI on windows/linux/mac.If you dont have command in CLI please dont do this and get it done at a service center near you. This some how depends upon the manufacturer of your phone and you need to find the instructions of doing this on their website.Note: This is the process of how I used to do it on my old nexus 5 and It may not be applicable for your phone.Taking example of google phones (Nexus/Pixel line) here are the steps:enable the developer mode by going into the settings then about then tapping multiple times on the build number till a popup appears saying “Congrats you are now a developer”.now go to developer options entry in settings menu and enable USB Debugging.now you need to download platform tools which should now be available separately. Earlier you need to download it after installing android SDK(which itself is a download. a big 1).extract the downloaded platform-tool on a directory of your choice and open a terminal there. If you are already on a terminal just go to that directory using cd command. Now download the factory image from your phone manufacturer site. When download finishes extract its content to the platform tools directorynow connect your phone to the computer and go to the terminal. Make sure you are inside the platform tools directory.now type “adb devices”. Unlock your phone as you need to accept some RSA print on your phone. When you accept you should see some output like “device id” follower by spaces then “device”now if your phone bootloader is locked you need to unlock it. THIS WILL WIPE YOU DATA so make sure first you should take backup of all you important stuff. You can follow this link How to Unlock Your Android Phone’s Bootloader, the Official Way for more info.type “adb reboot bootloader”. your phone will reboot to bootloadertype “fastboot devices”. you should see a similar output as of “adb devices”.then type “fastboot oem unlock”.your bootloader should unlock now.now there should be flash-all script under you platform tools folder.type “flash-all” (or ./flash-all) and android will perform the necessary steps itself. How it may help
