India is the largest producer of biscuit in the world. There are about 150 well known brand in the country ( Sub-Continent). The last figure that we have is approximately 8.8million tonnes/ annum. Volume wise parle is the leading producer almost accounting for 1million ton+/annum followed by Britannia accounting for about 900,000tons.There are several other large producer like Sunfeast, priya gold, Anmol, Jaya group, Ravi foods group, Raja biscuits, cremica, Krown Biscuits, Pathanjali to name a few. These players keep adding plants almost every year . In the mid range there are several companies( over 50) producing more than 1000tons/ month . The smaller companies which are more poring variety kind of producers and bakery cookies( mechanized )account anywhere between 200- 500 tonnes a month. In all India is a very big market and there are a few reason for this to happen.Almost all the plants and machines required for setting up a biscuit / cookie factory is available in India and that too at a reasonable rate.All the raw materials are available locally and at a very competitive price .Labour wages are reasonable and packing material is very affordable.The market is in and around the factory as biscuits have become the breakfast and lunch for the labour class and snacks on the go for working class. The price point at which it is available is very attractive and perhaps cheapest in the world. All these contribute to almost 10–15% rate of growth for the category.

Common in the US? That kind of food is common here in Canada as well!In fact I love biscuits, gravy, and turkey.We put gravy on fries and cheese on it, poutine, which others find disgusting, but it’s the best version of fries to us.We also put maple syrup on bacon, grapes……..and more…lots more.No, gravy is commonly loved by lots of people the pure sodium taste and biscuits, biscuits are never bad, it’s like bread and the exact sodium from pistachios came together, and turkey, who doesn’t love turkey?Mainly really good food others hate would be poutine, I’m Canadian myself and I don’t get why others may think poutine is bad.Some people may not like gravy, biscuits, or turkey though, and may think we Canadian’s put maple syrup on everything.It’s good sometimes but not on everything.
