What Is Considered Heavy Drinking

What is considered heavy drinking?

My wife thinks i am a heavy drinker. this is not affecting out marrage however when i drink she says i am a heavy drinker. what is considered heavy drinking? I saw on the internet 2 a day is considered moderate. But what if i dont drink everyday? I normally have honestly about 10 beers every other friday night with NO drinking any other time. is this hazardous or more hazerdous then if i drank 2 beers a day?

Is this considered moderate drinking or heavy drinking?

It is considered heavy drinking if it is done regularly. 16% alcohol in a bottle of rose is actually quite high, especially if your drinking a litre! For this particular amount of alcohol and its percentage, you a
shouldn't be drinking more than one large glass or two small glasses of this per sitting, with 2 - 3 sittings per week.

What is considered heavy drinking?

The answer depends on each person. How much is enough to make you drunk or sick is going to depend on too many factors. The biggest factor is how much alcohol you are used to drinking. If you have never had a drink it will take less to get drunk. Your body builds up some to it over time like with antibiotics. It also depends on weight & age. I know you are not supposed to have different types of alcohol in one night either like having a beer & then wine later or a mixed hard drink. It'll get you sick to your stomach. I know it helps to have something to eat along in there to sop it up too. I hardly ever drink anymore. Used to love to. Now I don't have time. Plus one weak drink & I have to take Advil next am or I have a headache. That came about over the years. I didn't drink every day when I was younger, just weekends but I sometimes binge drank & that did enough that it is harder to drink now.

What is considered heavy drinking?

Alcoholic, here.
Guidelines say over 5/week for women, 9/week for men (genders process alc with different efectiveness.)
Officially, yes.

My guideline is: if it's embarrassing you, affecting the function of your life, costing you things you can't afford or if you can't help yourself, go for help.

Keeping in mind I'm an alcoholic myself, I go both ways on the issue. If you're constant and there's never a week you don't drink, if you ache for it and never *not* drink for a week... if it's sometimes a lot more then twice a week, then I'd say yes.

If hurts your health and can get you into trouble. But if you're willing to accept these things, well... you're a grown person and it's your choice.

Professionals say it's a problem when you use it to cope or to relax.

My opinion is that that sort of drinking usually fits that description and is destined to get worse over time.

AA isn't scary; I was unimpressed by the God thing and what I'd heard about. Go to an open meeting sometime, maybe, and see how you feel about it - you don't have to have quit. Sometimes the stories ring so true, you know you belong.

It's not for everybody; I didn't stick with it, but I liked when I did go, and I'm an atheist. So...

Good luck!

Rob

PS: If you're asking this question, it's usually a good sign that the answer is yes. :-|
But to ask this question before you get worse is the best time to ask! I should have gone for help at sixteen. Instead, it's been too many years of hard drinking and now I'm physically addicted. That's not fun, I promise you!

What is considered a heavy marijuana usage?

As you read in lots of comments above or below, you probably understood that this factor is rather individual. I mean that for somebody 5 grams can be a lot, for somebody not enough. But the main factor, how you can judge whether it is a lot or not — is according to the consequences they may have. The main side effect it may have is the brain damage. There was a report on the internet about the man, who died after long-term of smoking weed. In fact marijuana was not the exact reason of the death, but the thing that he jumped in front of the car and it hit him. It appeared that he had situations when he had lost the touch with a reality. After examination of his brain in the hospital, it showed the horrible degenerative changes. The blood test showed the high level of THC. And his family admitted that he was smoking just a lot. Afterward, the researchers found damage in several of the man's brain regions, including tissues deep inside the brain and nerve fibers in the brain. And they said that it couldn’t be caused by the accident. Everything was the result of using marijuana. And this is not the only one case of heavy usage of marijuana. And you can see the results. That’s why you should be very attentive and careful with it.If you want to get in touch with doctors and get recommendations from them and the card for medical marijuana, click here.

What is heavy drinking?

There are four levels of alcohol use:

A heavy Drunkard is the one who regularly drinks at least twice the recommended limit, ie 35 units a week for women and 50 for men (British standards). Please note there is a component of regularity as well as no of units (rather than shots or times). You are not even a regular drinker. So, chillax you are not a heavy or problem drinker. You must be one of the four mentioned below. Check where you fit in.

Social drinking: less than 21 units/week for men and less than 14 units/week for women

At risk consumption: the level of drinking begins to pose a health risk

Problem drinking: drinking causes serious problems to the patient, the family, work and society in general. 1-2% of the population have a drink problem

Dependence and addiction: periodic or chronic intoxication; uncontrollable craving for drink when sober; tolerance to the effects of alcohol with psychological and/or physical dependence ;

Is a 750 ml bottle of wine considered moderate drinking or heavy drinking?

your size does not affect the rate at which you metabolize alcohol - it just means there is a larger volume of body fluids, so the initial concentration of alcohol is lower than in a small person who drinks the same amount.
The speed at which you drink the wine is not really relevant - though a whole bottle in one hour means you are not really drinking to enjoy the stuff - I'd suggest buying some decent wine, and learn to enjoy it, a sip at a time (which also means you are exerting more control over the amount you drink)
If I told my doctor I was knocking back 3 bottles a week, I am 100% sure he would advise me to cut down. Suggest you buy one of those re-usable wine corks, and see if you can "save some for tomorrow".
I too enjoy the vino, so please do not think I am trying to take the moral high ground here!
Look after your liver - life with a transplant will be nothing like what you now enjoy. (see link below) HTH
