What Is County Of New York New York

What COUNTRY founded New York?

No. i think of the 1st mistake is on your use of the word "proceed". in case you experience blessed by technique of God, and you reside in united statesa., then solid on you. Billions of persons do no longer stay in united statesa., yet are nonetheless greater effective than chuffed, and a few even experience blessed by technique of God (whether this be your God or another God). so a methods as your bigoted disclose on super apple is going... i'm uncertain what your schedule is. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, whilst the call "super apple" became in all probability given to the city by technique of a white protestant, to remind him of "York" in the united kingdom, the rustic did no longer come into life while the 1st white human beings landed there. until eventually you're an American Indian, then you certainly too are an immigrant. in spite of the actuality that, to be completely suited suited... even the yank Indians immigrated to what's now popular as united statesa.. So, i could recommend that one hundred% of every person residing in united statesa. is an immigrant. So, what's your factor? :-)

New York is one of the states in the United States of America. People often refer to travelling to or being in New York. In that case they are more than likely referring to New York City, one if the cities in New York State. The capital of New York State is Albany.New York City contains five sections, referred to as Burroughs These are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island.Visitors referring to New York in this sense are more likely referring to Manhattan, where can be found Times Square, Broadway, the site of the Twin Towers memorial, the Statue of Liberty, and many other attractions.

Westchester County is a beautiful suburban county north of New York City, just over the border from the Bronx near the southern end of New York State. Though known for its affluent, upscale bedroom communities like Scarsdale, Bronxville, Harrison, Rye and many others, it is much more diverse than most outsiders realize. The county is home to several large cities, the largest of which, Yonkers is also the state’s 4th largest city. Another large city, White Plains is home to many corporate offices, businesses and shopping experiences and serves not only as the County Seat but also as one of the main regional hubs of the NYC metro area outside of NYC. Port Chester, with its large Mexican and Latin American population has become a center of excellent Latin American cuisine. The “suburban idyll” of the county is largely the southern to central part of the county. The extreme southern end of the county is more urban and somewhat poor, while the northern end is rather rural horse country. Along its western border is the magnificent and historic Hudson River with several historic river towns: Tarrytown, Irvington, and Sleepy Hallow (yes, of Headless Horseman fame) being some of the most well known. To the east lies the Long Island Sound and then the state of Connecticut. To the north lies Putnam County, NY, a more rural county. To the south lies NYC, specifically the borough and county of the Bronx. The county is known for its high taxes and high real-estate but also has great public schools, parks, roads, and beaches to show for it plus a relatively easy commute to Manhattan compared to some of the other counties in the region. It is also home to many former and current celebrities from actors, singers, musicians to politicos to athletes - far too numerous to mention here.Lastly, it is not to be confused with the Westchester section of the Bronx, West Chester a town in Pennsylvania, or Westchester, the section of Los Angeles near LAX.

Is New York an island?

New York is, of course, a state which is a part of the continental US on the east coast with the Altlantic Ocean. Albany (upstate) is the capital. New York City is a very small, but hugely populated city within the state. It consists of 5 "boroughs:" The Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. When most people talk about New York (the city), they are generally referring to Manhattan because, to most people, it has the cultural and tourist attractions that drive visitors. Manhattan is a peninsula. To the east is the East River and to the west is the Hudson River. Queens is to its east, in general, and the Bronx to the north, in general. Brooklyn is somewhat southeast. Staten Island is southerly on its own, but technically part of "the city." There are a bunch of little islands which hold their own attraction and are part of the city. Examples are Ellis Island, Governor's Island, and Liberty Island.

Is Manhattan a borough and county of New York State at the same time?

It's New York. Not everything makes sense.

In the 1800's:
New York City was what is now the Borough of Manhattan (and maybe some or all of the Bronx; I'm not sure). So New York City and New York County were the same.
Manhattan was the name of the island that makes up most, but not all, of the present Borough by the same name (the Borough also includes a few small islands, mostly unpopulated, such as the one with the Statue of Liberty).
Queens was several separate cities. And what is now Nassau County was part of Queens County, which reached all the from the northern part of the East River to the Suffolk County border.
Staten Island was its own city, and was not connected by roads to the rest of today's city, because the bridge that now connects Staten Island to Brooklyn had not been built.
Brooklyn was its own city.

When they merged the original New York City (Manhattan), Brooklyn, Richmond (Staten Island), and the western part of Queens County, to form greater New York City, they kept most of the old county boundaries - except that they split Queens County into two Counties: Queens and Nassau.

The new city has five counties, for no real reason, other than because the counties were formed when the city was much smaller.

New York city is comprised of 5 boroughs -Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and The Bronx. But, to complicate things a bit, that is only the names of the boros. The boros are actually individual counties:Manhattan - New York County, Queens - Queens County, Brooklyn - Kings County, The Bronx - Bronx County, and Staten Island - Richmond County.Let’s jumble it up a bit more:The US Postal service Zip Codes in Manhattan (New York County) all say New York, NY. Theoretically you could address something to Chelsea, NY, or Harlem, NY, or Morningside Heights, NY, or Hell;s Kitchen, NY, all areas in Manhattan County, but the Post Office would prefer you just use New York, New York. On the other hand, the other boros/counties are less picky, and you can address something to Juniper Valley, NY (Queens) or Elmhurst, NY (Queens), or Brooklyn Heights, NY (Brooklyn), or Greenpoint, NY etc. etc. Most people immediately think of Manhattan when they hear NYC and forget about what really comprises The City of New York, and it is a bit of the chutzpah of Manhattanites to not dispel that thought. So New York, NY it has become, and will likely stay that way forever.

What are the outskirts of New York City?

The OUTSKIRTS of New York City are *considered*:
1. Eastern Queens (east of I-678)
2. Staten Island
(There is no official way of determining what the "outskirts" are. These are just the more suburban parts of the city with less/no subway access; the parts of the city with the least in common with the city center Manhattan)

The SUBURBS of New York City are:
1. Long Island(to the east)
2. Lower Hudson Valley and Southwest Connecticut(to the north)
3. Northern New Jersey(to the west)

There are many nice cities/towns/suburbs outside of NYC. I can spend all day naming them. Go on http://www.maps.google.com to play around with street views of various areas. If you like one of them then ask for more info. To name a few, South Orange, Milburn, Teaneck and Hoboken in Jersey. Rockville Ctr, Manhasset and Long Beach in Long Island. White Plains and Nyack in Westchester. I can go on and on......

Each of New York's five boroughs is coterminous with a county within New York State. From Wikipedia:Five of New York's counties are coterminous with the five boroughs of New York City and do not have functioning county governments, except for a few borough officials. New York City is considered the county seat of these five counties: New York County (Manhattan), Kings County (Brooklyn), Bronx County (The Bronx), Richmond County (Staten Island), and Queens County (Queens). Because each borough has a separate main Post Office (and Queens has four of them), the county seats of the five boroughs are often stated in terms of those main post offices: New York (Manhattan), Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, and Jamaica (Queens). However, the communities served by those main post offices are all within the city limits of New York. In contrast to other counties of New York state, the powers of the five boroughs of New York City are very limited, and in nearly all respects are subordinate to the city's.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lis...While the county function of the boroughs doesn't often come up in daily life, you occasionally see it on the news with regard to criminal cases. For instance, the official responsible for investigating the recent Dominique Strauss-Kahn case was the New York County District Attorney. He is responsible for prosecuting cases in Manhattan. Similarly, if that incident had occurred in Brooklyn, the Kings County District Attorney would have overseen the case.

One is a city, the other is the state the city is in.In addition to New York City, New York State also contains the major cities of Buffalo, Albany, Syracuse, and the smaller ones of Glens Falls, where the Hudson River starts (it ends in New York City), and the resort towns of Saratoga Springs, Lake George, and the geographical section called Long Island, which contains some of the world’s best Atlantic Ocean beaches. Of course, there are great Atlantic Ocean beaches also in New York City, in the parts of New York City called Brooklyn and Queens.
