What Is Coursework Like

Which is better: Masters by Coursework or a Masters by Research?

Frankly, if you are able to do research, I would not apply for a Masters program at all. I would apply directly for a Ph.D. program where you will receive full financial support and much more attention from the faculty and better training. In most cases, however, you will not be able to get any degree without doing course work. Graduate degrees are training and professionalization degrees. If you don’t get some professional training you are wasting your time. And professional training does not just mean contributing to a research project. It is understanding the literature and state of the art of your discipline in depth and learning to become a professional member of your discipline by engaging with your professors and other graduate students. Most Masters programs require you to do a research project to receive your degree, and even if you are in a program that will let you get your degree without such a project, I would definitely ask to do it—perhaps as an independent study.

Simile or Metaphor for English coursework?

The sentence has a dangling participle.
It clearly says that the smell walked through the front door.

Try this:
"When I walked through the front door, the smell of sweet confectionery and mummy’s homemade apple pie hit me like a symbol of home."
(I changed the verb "hits" to the past tense.)

Listing incomplete college coursework on resume?

@rpe: don't be stupid. You do want to list all institutions you attended, even if you transfer. But you DON'T put that you received a degree from said institution - that will quickly get you the boot from the job if you are discovered.

No employer is dumb enough to think that you somehow obtained a degree in 9 months, so what you would put on the resume is something like the following:

XYZ University | XYZ, AL | June 2010 to PRESENT
Major: Land-based basket weaving
-GPA: 3.5

ABC University | ABC, PA | January 2009 to August 2009
Major: Underwater basket weaving
-GPA: 4.0

Note how I haven't listed any degrees (BS, BA, AA, AB, etc.)
