What Is Dmv And Where Is It

What is the "DMV" area?

Dang, I'm from Maryland son.

It means "D.C., Maryland, Virginia".

It's just them combined, usually mentioned on radio stations, (93.9, 95.5).

Why Not Privatize the DMV?

Why can’t we privatize the DMV?

Does the DMV do anything that cannot be done by private enterprise? Wouldn’t setting a profit incentive shorten the lines and improve the service? Why do we need state employees with pensions granted by the taxpayers to do what is the most simple of clerical functions, things that companies such as EDS and Perot Systems have been doing for years?

Right now, if you need to take a driving test, in some places you can wait three to six months.

They blame it on the budget. Not enough money to hire examiners.

If you are a pilot and need to take a check ride from the Federal Aviation Administration, you pay a private individual who has been certified by the FAA to give you a check ride.

Why do people in the USA hate the DMV so much?

One of my job function is to support some aspects of a DMV, so I'll give you some perspectives and thoughts:1.  DMV's have an atrocious problem with uneven demand.  EVERYBODY shows up at the DMV in about 3 days at the end of the month, and the first two or three days of it.  Go to a DMV in the middle of the month, and you will likely find far shorter lines.  But unlike many private companies, DMV's can't easily scale staffing up and down.  Tough background checks and often old and crappy systems make for long training and onboarding cycles, making temps untenable, and many other functions of government are also month end heavy, making it hard to rotate employees in.2.  NOBODY EVER WANTS TO GO TO THE DMV.  Seriously.  You will never have a customer who's happy to be there.  It's a grating job that wears people down and makes them hate life.  But you have to be there, and so do DMV employees..  Nobody is going to be chipper after all that.  3.  It's a shitty job, usually with modest pay, yet surprisingly complex procedures, software, controls, and policy that basically sucks for employees and customers.  When policy is written or passed by the legislature, nobody cares what impact it will have on the front line at the DMV.  Add 20 minutes to the wait?  Make employees enter data in five separate systems?  Meh, not their problem.  Nobody votes an elected official out of office because the DMV sucks.  (If they did, it would not suck anymore).   Further, The best way to be fired at the DMV is to break policy.  Which is a good way to make damn sure that nobody goes above and beyond to help a customer a little extra.  Being slow won't get you fired, but breaking policy will.4.  Telephone and internet services are afterthoughts constrained by hidebound legal requirements that nobody has bothered to update since 1946, and which make it damn near impossible to deliver quality service to people.  (Some states are much better than others here).5.  DMV's are often run by people whose primary job isn't to run the DMV.  County assessors, some random state agency, whatever...  They have bigger fish to fry and more pressing concerns.  The DMV is simply neglected. At the end of the day, the DMV isn't much worse than customer service at any pseudo-monopoly.  And with no motivation to improve, it won't.

Why is Washington DC called the DMV?

The DC area is called the DMV because it's an abbreviation for District-Maryland-Virginia. And since Maryland doesn't have a DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) but a MVA (Motor Vehicles Administration), it's a more prevalent expression on the Maryland side of the city.

DMV court terms "SET ASIDE"?

I got this letter from the DMV and I think they're telling me I can have my license back, but when I called the check the lady on the phone was as clueless as I am. Here it goes:
THE ACTION TAKEN AGAINST YOUR DRIVING PRIVILEGE UNDER SECTION 133532 OF THE VEHICLE CODE HAS BEEN 'SET ASIDE' UNDER SECTION 13551.

I looked up these codes, but am still not sure!!! Help!

Whats the difference between the dmv and the dps?

DMV = Department of Motor Vehicles. They handle things like drivers licenses, registrations, etc.

DPS = Department of Public Safety. They are the troopers, officers, law enforcement, etc.

As for what you need to bring with you to get your state ID card, the answer depends on which state you reside in. Many states want Social Security card, birth certficate, etc... but more detailed info will be on the website for your state. Good luck!

What's the difference between the DMV and the BMV?

It depends on where you live. One is the Bureau of motor vehicles, the other is the department of motor vehicles. They serve the same function.

I bounced a check at the dmv and i can't afford to pay it. Is my registration still good(tags)?

If the check was refused for payment by your bank (the DMV didn't get their money), and it was for your registration ... then no your registration is not currently valid. In NY State your license is not valid until you make the payment (with appropriate penalty charges and reinstatement fees) good with the DMV.

If your bank's overdraft protection covered the check, you don't have a problem with the DMV ... they got their money, your registration is valid, your license is not suspended ... BUT ... there will be some additional fees that you will have to pay your bank!

Check with your bank, if they paid the check, the DMV is happy (they got their money), and your registration and license are fine ... but you will have to settle up with the bank.

If your bank didn't pay the check ... the DMV can (and probably will) invalidate your registration and suspend your license!
