What are some fun ways to learn a language?

Answer requested by Bryson White. What type of a language are you learning? Are you learning a language like English? Or a sign language like ASL? Or a programming language? I’m going to assume you mean languages like English, Mandarin, Hindustani, Arabic etc.DuolingoI’ve tried Duolingo and honestly it’s fun, the whole gamification process helped me get into language learning, it helped me actually put in the devotion to learn languages.Movies, videos, songs etc.You might enjoy watching TV or listening to songs, this can be a good way, try to watch your favorite TV shows in the language you’re learning, it’ll help since it gives sentences that you should use while in the situation.GamesTry to get games (if you like gaming) in the language you’re learning, if you like gaming and language learning this is a great way to combine both of your hobbies.BooksAny book works as long as it’s in the language you’re learning, it can be language learning books (like in the above picture) or books like Alice in Wonderland, China’s destiny or the Graveyard Book, anything as long as it is in the language you’re learning, however this is fun only if you like reading.WritingWriting can be extremely fun if you like to write, however you might not be sure what word to use in what sentence, nevertheless it’s a great way to learn the spelling of the language.Of course you don’t need any fun ways to learn a language if you find language learning in and of itself and of course these points don’t apply if you don’t find any of these fun, just find anything fun you do and mix language learning into it.

Can you learn a language just for fun?

You can learn anything ‘just for fun.’ A language is a good choice. You do have to have the correct mindset. Without this ‘correct mind set’ learning anything is harder. If you need the language, learning is easier. If you just want to do it for fun, it may…take longer that is debateable. It is known that our mind can do anything -point in fact, if you ‘set’ your mind to it you can do it. Does that mean if you don’t ‘set your mind’ to it you can’t do it. Likely not, however, without the correct ‘mind set’ it is more to much more difficult.Tell you mind you want to do this and likely you will not have any problems???Good luck

What language should I learn just for fun?

What language interests you the most? Go for that language! :) I want to be fluent in German and Japanese. I want to be fluent in German so I can be a Flight Attendant and most of my ancestry is German, but I want to be fluent in Japanese because I love the culture and I can picture myself going to Japan a lot. I was born and raised in the US, and while Spanish would be the most beneficial language for me to learn (and I do want to at least be conversational in Spanish eventually), I do enjoy German and Japanese more than Spanish. If you pick a language that you truly like, you’ll be more successful.

Why do people make fun of those who speak another language?

Don't stop speaking cantonese over something cheesy like that.

Some people find it funny cause foreign languages sound like some alien language off Star Wars. I heard my friend speak Gaelic and I couldn't stop myself from laughing cause it did sound weird to me.

But to mock another person is just plain immature, childish etc. If they don't understand other cultures so be it.

People can be @$$holes too and think that you're talking bad about them in the language. Unless you're working in a place where it's not allowed to speak other than English, be proud that you CAN speak another language that people think is weird, and exercise that freedom.

Next time you KNOW people look at you funnily over that just look in their direction and say "Lei tai mat yeh ah?" or "Lei kong mat yeh ah?" (unless you know a better sentence to say :P)

In the very unlikely situation where you get confronted over speaking cantonese I'd suggest saying "Just because YOU only speak English doesn't mean I don't know anything else!" or something like that...

If you have time to kill dress up like super rich people and talk Cantonese like no one's business. They'll probably think you're millionaires from Hong Kong and 'kowtow' to you ;)

(PS: Don't be offended if people smile or giggle at you cause you might find yourself laughing at other languages too!)

What is the most fun part of learning a language?

That, Dear Sir or Madam, is a great question!Seriously, I was just scrolling down the feed and almost passed it when it hit me.You see, I am an English teacher (non-native) and I think a lot about making the learning process as easy and effective as possible for my students. And this is exactly that kind of a question that I should have asked myself a long time ago.So, what was the most fun part of learning English for me?I could chat with foreigners and learn about their cultureI could watch really good American and British TV showsI could read great English literatureI could work abroadI could become an English teacher and make good money while doing something that fascinates me!Maybe, you've had something else in mind. Maybe, you are shaking your head when reading the points above, saying that this is not a part of the learning process itself but the result of it.And that learning is about grammar practice, vocabulary memorizing etc.Fact is that most teachers in public schools, justifiably, have the same idea about learning. But I am here to tell you that it is a myth!Learning grammar is important. But only AFTER and WHILE having intense, frequent, long term and regular exposure to any kind of authentic English language experience.THAT EXPERIENCE is the most fun part of learning a language.Find it, and you will never have to struggle with learning a language again...

If you could know any other language which would it be?

I have been trying to learn Chinese for years. It's a lovely, fascinating language and it does not stick in my brain. I'd give my eyeteeth to "just know" it. I'm afraid it's never going to happen that way!

Should a person learn a new language just for fun?

Hella yes. Learning languages for fun is awesome. I do it all the time. The rewards are amazing. There are tons of benefits from cognitive abilities in repelling Alzheimer's, to social aspects; I can talk to any stranger with ease now! Check out some great stuff by Judith Meyer. She has had loads of great experience, especially with the awesome case of Esperanto (language). I can not tell you the amount of times in my short, but rich life, that I have laughed or enjoyed another person, and it was only possible because I went out and pressed to know their language. There are other times where it was just made so much better because I knew their language. It is beyond worth it to you, its worth it for the rest of the world.
