What Is Going On With My Cat Help

How do I help my cat go through the mourning of my other cat that died young?

It’s very difficult to help a cat mourn (or any other animal) because they can’t express to us in words and we can’t do it too.Your cat will slowly mourn, just like we do. It can help to have some memorabilia from your other cat (a blanket, a cat bed, a necklace, a toy, anything with the cat’s smell).Cats are very private animals and don’t usually show up when they’re sad, sometimes they won’t eat too. Just make sure he has access to food and water in a quiet area if he doesn’t wish to show up, but check on him about twice a day.If your cat needs help coping with mourning, I can suggest you the Feliway diffuser. It’s spreading a calming smell and usually has a good effect on the cat.If you have any video or sound of your deceased cat, maybe you can play them once in a while for your cat?My doggy died of cancer 2 weeks ago; my cat misses him5 Ways to Help a Cat Grieve the Loss of a Feline Friend | CatsterDo Cats Grieve?Nine Signs of Grief in Cats

What will help my cat poop?

Tuna juice, especially from tuna packed in oil, often helps.

So does Karo syrup, if you have that. Mix a half teaspoonful in his wet food.

My cat, who has chronic constipation from megacolon, has to take Lactulose, a prescription syrup stool softener. Vets often stock it, and will sell you a few ounces for very little money.

Don't use any kind of stimulant laxative. If the kitty doesn't poop in a day or so, take him to the vet.

How do you go out of your way to help abandoned cats?

I’ve dealt with two abandoned cats. The first was Morris (what else do you call a big orange cat?) Morris was a sweetheart to people. Anybody could walk up to Morris and pet him and love on him. Unfortunately he very badly needed to be nuetered because he hated other male cats. He chased the neighbor’s cats up a tree, injuring one. Even Nosey was scared of him and gave him a wide berth. He was responsible for Nosey having a limp. The neighbors who are usually pretty cat friendly were not fond of Morris. But he arrived in the dead of winter. I couldn’t bring him inside to recuperate from neutering because I have male cats inside even though they are nuetered. So I waited until spring. I captured him quite easily. I actually just picked him up and put him in the carrier and took him to the vet. When the vet called I hoped it would be that they found a chip on him and could reunite him with an owner but that didn’t happen. Morris was sick and could not be nuetered until he recoved and that was iffy. He was also FIV+. He had been in so many fights that his eyes were scratched and he was going blind. He needed ey drops every two hours to keep from going blind. You can’t give eyedrops every two hours to an outside cat that wanders at will. I made some calls to people who took blind cats but they were all full. I couldn’t bring him inside, I couldn’t leave him outside. He was a danger to my cats inside and the neighborhood cats outside. And he was shortly going to be blind. I made the difficult decision to put him down. I was with him when they gave him the shot. The second is Tuxie or Top Cat as the neighbors call him. He lived a couple houses down. I don’t know if he was inside outside or outside only but I saw him every once in a while. Then his owner died. The relatives came and cleaned out the house but they didn’t take Tuxie. I make sure he gets fed and has shelter. I would try and find him a home but he has lived in these woods for at least 8 years and we are far from the road so he isn’t road savvy. One neighbor tried to bring him inside but he didn’t want to stay so he probably was a mostly outside cat anyway. I fear if he were taken somewhere else he would try to find his way home. He hangs out with Blackie who has an owner somewhere. He likes to sleep on the tractor. He seems happy.

I need help. NOW. My cat ate maggots. Whats going to happen?

I would never allow her to eat old food. I love my cat. But I hadn't been home all weekend and my step dad was "watching" her. I buy her special food.
But my step dad feeds the other cat we have food that his friend gave him.
So he fed my cat the food his friend had given him... No clue why... But anyway when I got home from my grandparents house today. I looked in her food bowl and there were maggots in it. Some dead some still alive.
She has had diarrhea (I think that's how you spell it), but there aren't maggots or anything like that in her poop. And she hasn't been feeling too well all day.
I'm TERRIFIED. Someone help?

She's my baby. I'm so scared.):

My cat is turning aggressive to go outside! Help!?

If your cat is not neutered, get it done ASAP. After neutering, the cat's hormonal level will go down over a period of weeks. During this time, he may still want to go out, but he won't be able to impregnate any other cat, and should be able to avoid getting into "territorial fights" with other males.

After his hormonal levels have leveled off, he should become LESS aggressive, and calmer. He may even be happy staying inside. OR, maybe not, since he's been allowed to get out before......You can try to keep him inside.......provide attention ( interaction ), toys, a cat "tree" ( so he can look outside/sleep on top ), etc. People "play time" is always a good thing, for cats who want to go out. It keeps them busy, and tires them out!!

If he continues to "escape", try making a habit of confining him to a room BEFORE anyone opens an outside door. That will keep him from getting under their feet & darting outside.

You are correct about the dangers outside.......and your cat will live a LOT LONGER if he stays INSIDE.......and be healthier, too. If he's not current on his shots, you need to get that taken care of, too.......as well as the neutering.......ASAP!!

Hope this helps........Good luck......

How do I help my cat adjust to the move?

I recently moved across the country, now that I am here my cat is having a hard time adjusting. He isn't eating or going to the bathroom. He does ocassionally, little bits, but very few and far between.

He is a bit skiddish, but is atleast not hiding anymore, he spends his entire day sleeping on our bed. Occasionally he gets up wonders a little bit, looks out the window, eats a tiny bit and goes back to sleeping.

How can I help him adjust better to his knew environment so he eats and plays more?

I REALLY miss my cat..............help?

please go to your nearest shelter and get a new kitty. tiny may not be there with you in body but he is with you in spirit. he loved you and would want you to give that love to another kitty and not be so sad. you won't ever forget him, he'll always be in your heart. it was on 2-8-07 we had to put our baby to sleep. i cried and grieved to the point of being sick. the vet had told us there are so many kittys in the shelters that need good loving homes. another at won't be the same but will help fill the emptyness the house feels without tiny. i know that it's hard to think of lovving another cat, when you go look, let the cat pick you. we went out the 10th of feb.looking for a female cat. no one felt right. on the 11th the last place we looked was petsmart. they let animal shelters bring in pets for adoption. there in a small cage was a male maine coon mix. we held him, he cuddled up to both my husband and myself. hen they put him back in the cage and the lock clicked he let out a little meow that sounded like"no". we had them put a hold on him. went back mon.the 12th,while i was paying for him,he eard my husbands voice and sat straight up looking for him. as i try to type my response i have a 9 mth old kitten in my lap wrapped around my right hand. so please, go to your local shelter and look around. it is a win win situation. you get a new furry companion and save his/her life in exchange for purrs, cuddles and kitty attention. in my case a cat works better than my zoloft. if you need to talk to me,please e-mail me. i hope you feel better soon

HELP!!!!I JUST FOUND OUT AFTER ALL THIS TIME MY CAT IS A BOY :-(????I NEED answers please?

LOL!

Well, if Demi is what you were calling her/him, I see no reason to change it, espically if he was answering to it. Ever read or see the book/movie Little Women?? When the oldest daughter, Meg, gets married, she has twins. Boy and girl. The girl is named Margaret, after her mother, but nicknamed Daisy, and the boy is John, after his father but nicknamed Demi -- short for demi-john, a small container. He remained Demi until his father died, I believe.

So if Demi works for Louisa May Alcott, it could work here. Demi doesn't have to mean Demi Moore. Kinda like the name Leslie -- thought of more as a girl name now, but Leslie Howard was a famous actor -- Ashley in Gone With the Wind, among other roles.

If the kitten isn't really answering to it yet, though I supposed it could be changed, and really, as long as kitty knows you love it, and you feed it and take care of all it's needs, it probably won't care what you call it, as long as it isn't called late for dinner!

Don't forget to have your baby neutered as soon as possible -- male cats do spray/urinate to mark their territory, and getting then neutered early prevents this!

What can I do to help my cat clean herself?

What is going on with your cat, that your cat is not grooming properly? Cats are fastidious creatures and spend a lot of time grooming. Your cat may quit grooming because of pain from injury or arthritis, disease that causes lethargy cancer, diabetes, kidney disease/failure, or obesity causes a cat to not be able to clean themselves property because they are too fat to bend themselves any more. Treat the reason why your cat can not groom itself first. If your cat needs to lose weight, consult your vet on a diet plan, because suddenly reducing calories can lead to acute liver failure. Otherwise, I would get a washrag damp, not soaking wet, but damp, with very warm water, like above cat tongue temperature and wipe your kitty down, going with the grain of the fur.
