What Is High School Like

What is highschool like?

DO NOT LISTEN TO DAVE.
High School may seem scary, but it wasn't at all for me. I entered on my first day last year, I see all these taller people, and I got scared. But then I found my friends and we had a great first day. People do not put people in trashcans or anything like that. And do not drink or do drugs. That is the worst thing you can do. Stay with nice people who you like and not creepy people. If you get a BF, keep it to kissing and hugging. You do not want to risk having sex.

It will be a lot of fun, and make sure you take a lot of AP and Honors classes!

What is High School like?

It's better than middle school, there's less pettiness. People don't care what you wear and who you talk with- maybe 1 or 2 people might but nobody probably likes them anyways. It's a time to start experimenting for some, you will see facebook pictures of people drinking, possibly doing drugs. I know I felt like I was exposed to this whole other world. I was very innocent in middle school so hearing about people getting drunk or hooking up was new to me, but you get use to it. I'm not saying you should drink or do drugs but it exists within your school. Be careful if you decide to do those things, don't be an *** and bring alcohol or drugs to school- it's stupid and you're going to get caught.

Do you your best, I know I could've done better but I was overly concerned about boys and I had some personal things going on at the time. In 3 years, you will be applying to colleges (if you plan to go) and you really want to have great grades. It goes by so fast- everyone will tell you that. Try taking a few honors/AP classes. It's not a big deal if you're not the most studious student, try 1 or 2 in subjects you're best at. Also, if your school's policies are like mine, homework counts for a lot so do it!

This is sounding really cliche by now but don't be afraid to try new things. Join a club, try out for a sport, volunteer, whatever you want to do. You're young, you're supposed to be having the time of your life right now. You could meet amazing people. :)

Good luck, high school's nothing to be afraid of :)

What was High School like in the 80's?

well i partied a lot. i wouldn't say the social groups were finely divided as i had friends in many different groups: auto shop kids, cheerleaders, jocks, nerds, pot heads, and even a few of the rich kids. i was a pot head. i think you can guess why i say that. Levi's and t shirts w/ bands like kiss, lynard skynard,
bob seger, judas priest on them. for the most part teachers were not that bad. work was hard but looking back i would say fair. there were no cops going up and down the halls. no gang violence. girls didn't dress slutty. we had a few fights once in a while but everybody got over it in a day or two. i got in a fight once and b4 the week was over me and this dude were friends. about 5 yrs ago i picked up a friends daughter from school twice a week because my friend had to work late those two days. anyway sitting in front of the school waiting one day there was this H/S girl sitting on the wall in front of the school, short skirt and no panties. that never would have been permitted when i was in H/S. girls couldn't ware skirts that short. we didn't walk down the hall holding hands. if caught kissing, 3 days off. if you want to know more e-mail

What's high school like in the US?

This was what my average weekday was when I was in high school:4:20 am - Wake up to go to morning practice for my swim team (Tuesdays and Fridays)6:40 - Finish practice on morning practice days, or wake up on non-morning practice days7:05 - Arrive at school, park my car, walk in, sit in front of some lockers with some friends and finish up any homework I didn’t do, or study for any quizzes/tests I had that day. Here’s what a typical school hallway looked like:7:20 - First period starts8:05 - First period ends, we have morning announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance8:15 - 2:10 - Periods 2, 3, 4, LUNCH (10:50 - 11:40), 6, 7, 82:15 - 2:30 - Last period ends, hang out with some friends, talk a little bit2:30 - Drive to swim practiceClasses in high school are very similar between students, but there is some variation depending on which electives you’re interested in. In my senior year, I took English (required), IB Chemistry (I was in the IB Program), IB History, Spanish, MVC/Diff Eq, IB HL Math, and Theory of Knowledge (which is kinda like philosophy/epistemology). In class, I think it would be similar to what you experience in Britain: the teacher lectures for most of the time usually, then we might have some activity, then we’re assigned some homework (usually reading from a textbook and taking notes, or doing worksheets, or writing essays). We also had open lunch, which means that during the lunch period (10:50 - 11:40), could go off campus and walk/drive to a restaurant, as long as we were back in class for 6th period.Clubs usually met either during lunch or after school. I was a part of a few clubs, including math team and It’s Academic, which were both pretty fun!

What is high school like in america?

What is High School Like In America?

Basically, I just wanted to know more about what American Schools are like.
I’m from the UK and I’m in Year 8, So I’m 13.
We wear school-uniform, and hardly any makeup.
Only (Year 10 & 11) 15-16 year olds are aloud to wear makeup
So, no eye shadows, no eyeliner, no bronzer or blush, no lipstick.
Just light foundation and natural-looking mascara.
But obviously most pupils break those rules, and over-bronze there face and clump up the mascara :/
Our School meals/lunches are 'decent'
Breakfast:
Pizza Bagels (with pepperoni and cheese)
Lunch:
Hot Meals (Baked Potatoes, Curries, Sausage & Mash, Chicken Nuggets Etc.)
Cold Meals: Sandwiches
I start school at 8.45am to 3.30pm, other schools end at 2.30, 3.05, 3.15
We have 5 lessons during the day.
Including; English, Maths, History, Religious Studies (R.E), PE (Physical Education), Art, Design & Technology, Science, Geography, German or French,
ITC (Computers), Drama, Music.
There are different types of ‘groups’ in my schools like;
Emo’s: They’ll write depressing statuses, take dark pictures.
Badman's: There very ‘gangster’ and they’ll use English Slang and Abbreviations; the Badman's are the cool people.
Slags: Slags are the girls who put up those ‘slutty pictures’ on Facebook, they usually have clumpy mascara, wear low cut tops, have bf’s, are dirty-minded, and are very b***hy. Slags are as popular as the Badmans.
And then there are the people that don’t fit in at all.
What groups are there in America?
In Year 11 we do GCSE’s, GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) are exams that 16 year olds are expected to take before finishing compulsory education.
I THINK it’s the same as graduating High School- I’m not sure though.
So, what are American High Schools like?
Oh and what are some good High Schools in America?

What is public High school like?

Don't worry! I've been in Public Schools my entire life (I'm only in ninth grade though). High school really isn't that bad. Of course, there will be people that test your patience, but just ignore them because they really aren't worth your time. I have a friend who has been home-schooled her entire life, and our social skills weren't that different.

It is nothing like the movies. In the movies, you have about three days to finish your homework, but you really only have one night to do it (though that might depend on what kind of schedule your school has). Still, the homework load isn't that bad, especially for honors classes. Regular classes seem to get a lot more, but not enough to worry about. There's no "give me your lunch money" crap either. However, recently, we had some boys get into a fight in the locker rooms and one guy's neck might have been snapped (this was only on Monday, so we don't know much yet). Moral of the story= guys' locker rooms are awful. Girls' locker rooms are fine as long as you don't go making enemies.

As for lunch, it really depends on the school. My school is pretty good and accepting, so even kids that are foreign, autistic, or new get friends easily. Of course, even though I've been in the same school system my entire life, I only recently started to become social. If you have a smaller school, it'll be different, but mine is 1600+ students for 9-12. By lunch time, you'll most likely already have a circle of friends to hang out with, especially with someone as awesome as yourself.

What is a public high school like?

Mine was fine. It was really big, with a lot of people in it so there were plenty of sub groups to fit your niche. We also had a really good faculty. It probably helped that we were based in a white suburban neighborhood. Then there's the smaller schools. I've heard that they are where the horror stories come from, how you feel like you have to conform to the groups that already exist and how everything revolves around the popular kids. Having never been to one though, I can not say what they are like. Probably like most things in life not all public high schools are the same, so you can't really make broad generalizations. If you are coming from private school though the teachers are probably more friendly or less concerned with religion or your personal relationship with god, and there is probably less pressure too. Not to say there is no pressure, but there is probably less because your parents are not paying for your education yet.
