What is philosophy in life?

Philosophy in life is how you apply certain philosophy to individual life. So if your philosophy is "treat others the way you want to be treated" the question is what does that look like when it is lived out?

What is your philosophy of life and why?

(1) Work towards your dreams. Everything else is secondary. At the end of our life, we’ll have this question in our mind, “Did I live my dream?”. I surely do not want to regret at that moment. When I’ll leave the earth, I will be happy thinking that I achieved whatever I wanted.(2) People will come and go in your life. Don’t get so emotionally attached to them. You cannot just cry all day because that old friend is no longer along with you. Life goes on. Learn to move on.(3) We may have many friends but only some of them are ‘true’ friends. Rest are there with you just for their benefits.I have had many people who’d talk to me very nicely. After their work is done, they’d treat me as if I didn’t exist.(4) Sometimes, when life gets hard, have Confidence. It has some great superpower. This works with me very well. I pretend that everything is going fine, and then soon everything actually get fine. Purely magical!(5) If you’re bad at something and if you want to improve it, then work on it until you completely master it.I was bad at Math. A useless kid who didn’t even know multiplication tables higher than 10. Now, I am a Math geek.(6) If you think you’ve gained something extra, always share it with people. You’ll not lose anything. Instead, people will give you blessings.I love sharing. I share my knowledge, experiences etc. I love to see people around me, happy.(7) Time is the most valuable thing in the world. Life is too short. Make sure you make the best out of it.You never know when you meet death. Make sure that you don’t even waste a second.(8) Have a role model who has already achieved the thing that you want to achieve, so that when you try to procrastinate, thinking of the role model will protect you from procrastination.Mark my words. This really helps.(9) Relationships are time-wasters. You can have female friends (male friends for females). Those endless and useless fights are disgusting. I have a best-friend who is a girl. We are pretty much close. Its better than relationships actually.(10) Never let your ego take over you. There are smarter people in the world than you.If you think you’ve achieved something great, don’t brag like you’ve invented a time machine. Look in the history. Many people have achieved that great thing. In case you like my answer, please do visit my profile here.

What is your one word philosophy of life?

Life is always oscillating between two extremes. Black & white, dark and light, up and down, positive and negative and so on. Happiness & sadness. Even naturally electromagnetic waves are sinusoidal in shape. Having crests and troughs.Similarly, our life has both good and bad as well as ugly and beautiful things. Life is a balanced mixture of everything around us. Logically we need to take a good and reject bad from everything. What is your philosophy on the meaning of life?

My personal answer is going to be pretty religious, since I try to be. Anyone turned off by G-d talk should just skip to someone else’s answer.I believe the purpose of life, to the best we can understand G-d’s motives for anything, is that “it’s the nature of good to have someone to whom to be good.” G-d wanted to be Good, and by definition that meant He would create recipients. So, our purpose is to be out here receiving His Good. So, why isn’t life all gumdrops and roses? What about life’s imperfections? For that matter, why doesn’t this imply our being active beings? To receive could be done entirely passively. Here’s where the dialectic that underlies all of the human condition comes in. The greatest Good G-d has to share is His Own “Essence”. To give us the opportunity to be givers, creative beings that contribute to others’ welfare, in the Creator’s image. (A central theme in R’ Eliiyahu E Dessler’s, “A Discourse on Lovingkindness.) The best thing to receive is the ability to give. And so everything… religion, spirituality, having a relationship with the Divine, is all for the purpose of becoming more able to share His Good with others. The broader and deeper our reach in benefiting others, the more meaning we have beyond ourselves. And so, ironically, the “best of all possible worlds” is one that has problems for us to solve. If everything were already perfect, we would receive, but never give.As I said, this underlies all of the complexity of the human condition. When we look at ourselves as givers, we are inventors, we “fill the world and subdue it” (to quote Genesis 1). And yet, as recipients we are lonely beings who cannot survive without companionship and relationship; “it is not good for the human to be alone” (Genesis 2). We see ourselves as angels garbed in bodies and as highly evolved animals. We see society as the groundwork possible to maximize the individual’s welfare, and yet also the individual’s highest calling is to serve society. (This paragraph draws heavily from the thought of Rabbi JB Soloveitchik.)In short, to quote Rabbi Shimon Shkop, G-d created us and “planted within us eternal life” through revelation, “so that our greatest desire is to benefit others, the individual and the masses, now and in the future, in imitation of the Creator (as it were).”

How do you apply the philosophy in your daily life?

How do I apply ...? Without thinking about it twice. It's how I do things, I think about it, discuss it, look at it from another angle, think about it, discuss it... That applies to many things in life that I see either as a problem or just something that makes me wonder. It's how I socialize with my friends, it's how I solve problems, it's how i entertain myself so that I won't become bored...
