What Is My Favorite Song

What is your favorite song?

Instagram by Dean.I love this song because it perfectly illustrates how social media serves as a facade for how we really feel. Someone could be posting the happiest pictures in the world on Instagram but secretly be sad and no one would ever know. It also helps that this song has a video that if seen without the lyrics, makes no sense. In the music video, Dean stays in the same exact room for the entire song, where he mostly stays in the center of the room. When you first see him, he comes off as more of a rapper by the way he is dressed. When I first saw this video, I was disappointed and confused with what I was watching, but the more I thought about it, I started to realize how well the video actually portrayed the song. The reason why he was dressed like he was was not because it was a rap song, which it isn’t, but because it is supposed to show the fake facade of Instagram. While he looked like a rapper to most, including me when I first watched it, behind his rapper facade was really just a guy, singing about his frustrations and loneliness. Immediately judging his appearance and putting him into the rapper category was unfair, but it is exactly what the song was about: unfair judgement and hiding emotion. Another part of this song/video that I really love is the pause right before the outro of the song where he stops singing and says the words, “sometimes I feel alone.. like Robinson Crusoe.” I don’t know why I am enamored by this, as I have seen it done in the Blood Sweat and Tears video by BTS (which I loved too). It connects to the song on the loneliness level, but other than that, I’m not sure how Robinson Crusoe has to do with the song. I know that being confused and not sure how parts of a song fit together should be a reason to dislike it, but for some reason that I can’t figure out, it makes me like it more. If you get the chance you should really take a look at it (with subtitles).

What is your favorite song and band?

I love all types of music except heavy metal and the old twangy country. I don’t really have a favorite, too many I enjoy but here are a few. Also I love going to live music places or dueling piano places.“Broken prayers” God takes your pieces and makes something new.“Temporary Home” if you find a family and a home in this life, you are the richest of them all.

What is your all-time favorite song?

Probably Wait For It from the Hamilton soundtrack. It’s so perfect- Leslie Odom Jr’s voice is amazing, the piano at the beginning sets the perfect tone, the musical drop about halfway through…I like how it’s just Leslie Odom Jr at the beginning, quietly, with minimal accompaniment, and then it suddenly gets loud and adds a bunch of other instruments. It gives me the chills every time I hear it.For anyone who doesn’t know, Wait For It is about Aaron Burr, who is the antihero of the play Hamilton. Burr and Hamilton were originally friends, but gradually became rivals, with their rivalry ending in Burr shooting Hamilton in a duel. The musical is more about giving everyone their own story than that the protagonist is the hero of everybody, and Burr is actually my favorite character. I hate Hamilton. It also includes great quotes, including some of my top favorite quotes of all timeI am the one thing in life I can control-I am inimitable, I am an original-I’m not standing still, I’m lying in wait-It is also a song that gives more depth to someone who is originally just a villain, and I love characters with depth. His parents both died, and then his wife died, followed by his daughter when he was older. Hamilton always gets the best of him in every situation, often not even seeming to notice how he is mistreating Burr. So, Wait For It is my favorite song both because of it’s musical accolades, and the deep backstory and depth behind it.
