Do you need an above average IQ to go to a university?

You don’t need an above average IQ to go to college. In the US almost any student can find a school that will accept them and their parent’s money. But if your IQ is average, you are going to have a tough time graduating with a marketable major and getting a job that requires a college education. Those marketable majors tend to be tough.Thomas B Walsh's answer to What is the general IQ of university students? Can a person study at a university with an average IQ?There are about 1,900,000 bachelor’s degrees being conferred every year. College is a competition for a relatively few well-paying jobs. The “book smart” graduates tend to be the winners.PSI’m having a difficult conversation with my neighbor, who is asking for advice. (He’s the tax guy in our neighborhood. I’m the college guy.)He has a daughter who is a senior in high school. (The school, just your run-of-the-mill Midwest high school, sends eighty percent on to college.) She has a 4.0 GPA, but, try as she might, she can’t get her ACT score higher than 23, which is 69th percentile. She isn’t eligible for any scholarships, and they are contemplating borrowing $15,000 a year to send her to college. I’ve asked him to read Real Education by Charles Murray. Murray’s position is that college is for the upper 20%.My neighbor can’t get past his daughter’s 4.0 GPA. He sees her as a scholar, ready for college. I’m guessing she’s going to end up $75,000 in debt working at Starbucks, but I can’t come up with a tactful way to say that.

Should I reconsider the university if my IQ is just around 101?

How do you react to stress? To frustration? To boredom? Do you procrastinate, waver, give up? Or do you knuckle in, get stubborn, and work hard toward your goals? Those reactions, or habits, will be more important to your success in college than any measures of how quickly you can calculate. Because college is often stressful, and frustrating, and boring--and, far more than intellectual difficulty, managing your reactions to these conditions are both the biggest challenges and the most important life lessons of a college education.Good luck. You'll do great.

Can a person with an official IQ score of 92 graduate university successfully? If so, at what level (Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's)?

I realise the answer to this question likely depends on several factors, but I don't mind a general answer.

I am aware that an IQ score of 85-115 is considered average.

Should I limit my university expectations when IQ can predict college grades?

It dependsIf your IQ is well below 100 and you happen to be a top athlete then don't be too worried about your IQ scoreThe same goes if you intend to be Miss Universe, or are extremely witty, or are very talented musically or artistically, or your father is very rich, because in the real world IQ ratings don't tell you muchWhat is more, even if you get a good degree, the chances of you getting a job in the field of your choice is far from guaranteed    how many graduates actually use their degree? Further to this, even if you do use your qualifications in the field of your choice, the chances are that you will be promoted or end up doing something that is more related to the job than your qualificationsSo in answer to the the question, you might be better off choosing your career path and finding what it requires before putting too much weight on your IQ measurement

Do universities consider your IQ score in PhD Admission?

Not your IQ score, no, but there is a fair correlation between IQ and the GRE so it is reflected indirectly in the scores. I suspect (though haven’t verified) that this is truer in the lower rangers of IQ because conceptually, the GRE questions are easy. Here’s an example from the practice test:Not exactly a brain twister, is it.

Will studying university level math increase my IQ?

“Will studying university level math increase my IQ?”No. I think it will very likely decrease it, unless you have taken a study course to specifically learn how to study and you study in such a way as to not decrease your intelligence.I looked at SAT scores before college and GRE scores after 4 years of college and the average intelligence was down 4 points. (Anyone can do this.) I did not look at math specifically. I think subjects other than math would decrease intelligence more. This was not done as a scientific study.I understand people learn about half the knowledge and skills they learn in a lifetime before they enter school, at the age of 5. That is a very high learning rate. I understand the highest measured intelligences are measured at age 12 after people have acquired enough knowledge of reading to complete the written tests that are used. These are higher test levels than they typically receive when tested in following years. I understand this is due to a very specific thing that can be corrected, and when it is corrected the person’s intelligence will return to or be higher than at age 12.I do not believe the subject of math has any special ability to increase intelligence.
