What is normalization in the GATE?

GATE Normalization Process is meant for only those papers which are conducted in multiple test sessions owing to a large number of applicants. GATE results usually declared about one month after the examinations are over. The results show the total marks scored by a candidate, the GATE score, the all-India rank and the cut-off marks for various categories in the candidate’s paper. The score is valid for 3 years from the date of announcement of the results for admission in the post graduation degree. The GATE scorecards are issued only to qualified candidates.GATE Normalization Process is the methodology prescribed by the GATE authorities to convert the raw marks of the candidates into scores after computing according to the specifications. GATE 2018, the online exam will be held for 23 papers on February 3, 4, 10 and 11, 2018 by IIT Guwahati, the conducting body. The online application form of GATE 2018 opened on August 31 and has to be filled through GOAPS. The result of GATE 2018 will be released on March 17, 2018 by GATE conducting institute. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate education programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies.https://www.aftergraduation.co.i...

Is there any chance of getting into an IIT with 55 marks/o normalisation in GATE 2018 set 2 mechanical engineering (OBC category)?

See….here is the marks vs rank prediction by S. K. MONDAL sir.So after normalisation, your marks will be in the range of 55–60, so you may fall in AIR 3000–5500.By this rank, you may get call for written test and interview from NEW IIT (ISM DHANBAD, INDORE, GANDHINAGAR, BHUBANESWAR, ROPAR, BHILAI).You may get old IIT in spot round. But less chance to get core field, you may get interdisciplinary or material science. If you're trying NITs, then you have the chances of getting good NITs with good branch probably after second round. In CCMT there are total 3 rounds to get NITs. Then one NSR( NATIONAL SPOT ROUND) for vacant seats. So you have good chance to get good NITs (eg. Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal). So I should suggest you to fill all forms. And have patience. Thanks for reading.

Will IIT, Roorkee recalculate our normalized marks for setting the cutoff in the GATE 2015 MTech admissions, or are the marks we get already normalized?

Yes, They will recalculate and normalize our already normalized gate score by dividing our normalized gate score with topper’s normalized gate score who has applied for IIT Roorkee.

How is JEE Main rank evaluated using 12th marks (normalisation) and what are the cons of this evaluation procedure?

Thus the JEE has detailed a procedure for normalization of Board marks as given below:       Note the aggregate marks (A0) obtained by each student in JEE Main.      On the basis of aggregate marks scored by each aspirant in his/her own  board (B0), the percentile (P) is calculated. P is computed from the  list of five subjects specified (each marked out of 100) and among all  students of the board whose subject combinations meet the eligibility  criteria of JEE-Main. Five subjects to be used for normalization:-  1. Physics2. Mathematics 3. Any one of the subjects Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Computer Science 4. One language5. Any subject other than the above four subjects. In respect of 3, 4 and 5, the best mark in a given category will be chosen.         Determine the JEE Main aggregate marks corresponding to percentile (P) at the All- India level. We call this B1.     Also, determine the JEE Main aggregate marks corresponding to  percentile (P) among the set of aggregate scores obtained in the JEE-  Main by the students of that board. We call this B2.      The normalized board score of the candidate will be computed as:     B = 0.5 X (B1 + B2)       a.For the purpose of admission to NITs and other Centrally Funded  Technical Institutions where Main Score and Board score are taken in the  60:40 ratio, the composite score for drawing the merit list will be  computed as:   C = 0.6 X A0 + 0.4 X B   CONS in this system - There is a case going on this process of evaluation. I will give my  experience I got 233 in MAIN and 95.4%in boards. I had AIR 3330. A  friend of mine got 230 in MAIN and 97.2% in boards and he got AIR 690.  The fact here is that 97% + students in boards ( cbse ) get undue  advantage.I hope this answer helped you.

What is the GATE cutoff for an MTech at IIT Roorkee?

Back in 2010, there were more seats for MTech programs in all the IIT’s(I’m talking about the 7 IIT’s)But recently, most of them has slashed there seats. Now presently, IIT Roorkee has 26 seats for which you can get MHRD scholarship.Apart from these they offer 26 more seats as self-sponsor.If you are desperate to be into IIT, then you can go for self-sponsor seats too.In my opinion, for a scholarship seat in IIT Roorkee, you must acquire around 200–250 AIR(if you belong to general category). For Self-sponsor, I will let you know within a couple of days.
