What Is Poetry What Is Art

How is Art like poetry ?

Both are forms of creative expression. True Art and Poetry come from somewhere deep inside the human existence. There are no confining rules that apply, just expression of emotion.
Art speaks to us with no words, whereas Poetry uses words to paint.

Is poetry a lost art?

The Role of a PoetTo say what others cannot is truly a mark of greatness. But have all the noble poems been written by classical masters and the gifted poets of today?  Are there meaningful works still left to pen, not merely big words from swollen egos spilling their contents at the whim of a moment, nor with the simplistic meanderings of joy or grief or love? To answer the question, I say write on, dear poets. Don’t allow your words to decay unwritten in the brilliant minds of today where they'll lie barren and unread only to wither and crack and parch as clay in the desert. I do believe there are jewels left to be written. But if we must write, it should be for the future, for the common man who will gain most from words he cannot write. We have an obligation to write in a way that he may glean what he can from writings of poetic merit, not stumble through obscure words which are to him, like bird droppings on a splintered windowsill, left to die in obscurity gathering nothing but dust.If we must write, let us write for those who are unable, so the future might find our words alive and fertile, their tilled soil begun as thoughts and feelings first seeded in keen minds, then sown into black and white, rich and green and lush, to live on in future hearts and minds even as we crumble, ashes to ashes, and blow away, dust to dust. May we always write not to say what we can all say, but what many are unable to say -- not just for now, but for forever.[From the book, “Anatomy of a Poet”, by CJ Heck]

Is poetry an art? Are poets artists?

This question is inspired by something I came across online. I always thought of poetry as a form of art, and poets as artists....but this blog stated otherwise. What are your thoughts?

What is the purpose of poetry?

What is the purpose of music? What is the purpose of a painting? What is the purpose of any art? Self-expression, an outlet for creativity. When you read a poem, you are reading someones innermost thoughts, thoughts that are sometimes only shared with that piece of paper. It is a glimpse into the rawest form of the human mind and emotions.

Art is visual poetry. What does this mean to you?

There are several aspects to why people call poetry as a visual art. They are -Formatting - The first impression that is formed of the poem is by the layout and format of the poem. Some famous writers/poets who have used this feature are GM Hopkins and William Blake.Rhyme and meter - A poem with distorted thoughts or something that conveys a dilemma can hardly be well rhymed and absolutely metered. Some poets like their work to be raw, going with the flow and contented with the very first draft. Such poets may not stick to the strict laws of poetry. There are others who spend a lot of time in drafting and re-drafting, changing words, improvising on imagery and so on. This again helps in making an impression on the readers in the very first glimpse.Imagery and imagination - Some people consider literature, not just poetry, as a visual form of art because of the extensive use of imagery and symbols that compels one to visualise things, the characters and evenue the emotions. This is the most prominent reason out of the three I've mentioned here. One must remember that visual arts are not always for the eye but also for the mind's eye!

How is poetry different from other art?

Thanks for the A2A.!From my experience of poetry, I think the features that distinguish poetry from other forms of writings are:-rhyme-rhythm-format (stanza, etc.)-feelings/ideas conveyed in less words-meaning is more difficult to understand than if the poem was written in prose-the techniques used in poems are different than other forms of writing.-language seems to be manipulated more in poems. A poet can create a language of his own (e.g. 'Jabberwocky')-fascinating lexical/syntactical patterning. Thanks for reading.!!!Pic courtesy : Google Search

What do poetry and music have in comman...?

There are a lot of similarities between music and poetry.

Some of the similarities are:

- Rhythm
- Expression
- Emotion

Songs themselves have to be rhythmetic. As well, poetry flows just the same. Rhythm is what makes music as well as poetry. The flowing of words, the instruments smooth melody; all a part of the greater meaning, poetry.

In fact, there's even a form of poetry which is made into music called lyrical poems. They are just that, musical lyrics. Sometimes they are used in songs, sometimes left as just words with a specific rhythm. They are what they are, lyrics express the thoughts and feelings of the author.

Although they are the only type directly related to melody, lyrical poetry is definitely not the only poetic form which can be made to song. A good example of this is rap. Rap is made up of rhythm, rhyme, sometimes alliteration and many other poetic attributes. It is the most likened to poetry, yet is still music.

Music without words is poetry, just not in the generalized sense. Poetry is about flow, rhythm, meaning and expression. Instrumental music expresses, flows and shows just as much emotion as does music with words.

All-in-all, music is poetry. The difference between the two is so small that all poetry needs is either a vocalist or instruments.

Whay is poetry considered a form of art?

How do you not express yourself in narrative poetry? You're using YOUR words to describe something, either fictional or not. That's like saying, paintings about epic events are not art...

How is poetry NOT art? A painting is made with 3 different colours, blended together by a brush. A poem is made with 26 different colours -- called letters, in the English language -- blended together by the mind. Each can portray any scene just as vividly as the other, but a painting has limits that writing does not! For example, a painting shows us only a part of a scene, that is still; and it also determines all visual characteristics thereof. Writing can show anything, in motion, and not just what is limited to things we can see or draw. Writing also leaves most visual aspects of a scene to our own definition.

If anything, therefore, poetry is more an art than painting is.
