What Is So Great About Pulp Fiction

Why do you like Pulp Fiction?

Pulp Fiction remains an extraordinary work and as indicated brilliantly by David Durham below, it is a quintessential landmark motion picture for the 1990's as much as Easy Rider defined the late 1960's.  As a matter of fact, don't even bother with my answer and proceed immediately to David Durham's remarks. If you have decided to stick around, I will offer the following: There comes along a work of writing and film that almost against all odds gets green-lighted through the Hollywood process that later unfolds as an almost accidental work of genius. Certainly one can make note of aspects of Pulp Fiction that are clever, such as the shuffling of the time-line, the numerous story lines and the then-to-fore unheard of balls out dialogue. It was a level of "cool" that had been absent from film since Steve McQueen starred in Bullit (1968). But more than aspects, the entirety of the film delivers a depth of amazing dialogue, killer soundtrack and human interaction with an ensemble cast that is simply mind-boggling as to how well it worked. And the actors knew that something amazing was happening but they weren't sure. Uma Thurman had HUGE second thoughts over a male-rape scene. The studio wanted Daniel Day Lewis for Travolta's role. It is a testament to the strength of Tarantino's vision and his own tenacity that made it happen.Vanity Fair did a series of stories which are absolutely must-read for anyone who cares about filmmaking and this movie in particular. Pulp fiction or kill bill?

Well, I really like Kill Bill despite the fact that they used the Samurai swords in a completely wrong way. Still I just can;t get that Lucy Liu scene out of my head...I think it's actually one of my favorite lines...you know, when they comment on her American and Chinese history and she cuts one of their heads off...and then she's like:

"If ANY of you ****'s got anything else to say...NOW's the ****ing time!!!"

Anyways, I really liked the plot layout and the fact that it had a female as a hero. It was just great. But, I also liked Pulp Fiction a lot and it would probably top Kill Bill if it wasn't for John Travolta (it's not that I think he's a bad actor, it just that I'm personally not fond of him!). The comedy was great in PF, the scenes, the lines, the sheer absurdity of everything is just amazing. But I like meself a strong female in a lead role, I just think it gives women a fighting chance against all those man heroes and hemen. And for once it's not sexual. So Kill Bill wins it for me.

THE GODFATHER VS. PULP FICTION?

Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie, I like it particularly because of the dialogue. Everything else is very good as well but it's mainly the script that makes it so great, it's an original movie.. The Godfather has much more things to it.

The Godfather has everything. A very good story, an extremely well written script, and probably the best acting in any movie ( Brando in the first, Al Pacino in Part II).

BQ - Honestly, you should go back to GOB.

Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction?

Pulp Fiction blew my mind when I saw it!

The 'Dogs' was good, but PF is a classic among classics.

Reservoir Dogs vs. Pulp Fiction?

For me it's Resevoir Dogs. It had a great cast and story, twisting angles. It was dirty and gritty where as Pulp was more polished and clean.
