There is this song that starts out with this horn. It goes for like... 15 seconds or so. At first you don't think it's going to be a rap song. It's not like a fast trumpet or anything. It's just a horn playing. It's kind of slow-ish, but not really. And then when the beat starts the horn (as well as the bass) do this kind of dun Dun DUn DUN. And then it's a rap song. What is the best pop song featuring violin?
I don’t know if this question was intended to highlight a violin in the singular whereas a violinist perhaps has a solo or some other substantial contribution on a song, or if this was violins in the plural which then would be more orchestral. I will take the violin as singular. Given that we are restricted to pop music the two songs which come to mind are, Dexy & The Midnight Runners “Come on Eileen” and the lesser known song (though its my preference over the two) “Fisherman Blues” by The Waterboys.Come on Eileen is still a staple of 80s music and probably one of the more eclectic pop hits with plenty of violin dubs that made its way over from the UK to the States. It comes as no surprise that this is a fan favorite at college dive bars, karaoke bars and St. Patty’s Day. Fisherman Blues while not as popular has bleeding and beautiful violin playing throughout the song including a 16 bar violin solo. While the song may not be considered mainstream for its Celtic overtures, its been around in enough circles since 1989 where most avid listeners of alternative pop would be able to identify it.
