A street number isn't necessary and it will show a route to the center to the post. *If your boyfriend is in basic then he will be in Sand Hill. Going straight down the 185 will get you on post. Do not get off exit 1, keep driving. Once you pass exit 1 (Victory Drive) you will run into the front gate but you need to get into the far left lane to get to the visitor's center. From there, there will be signs that can lead you to Sand Hill and from there there will be signs leading to where his graduation will be. Fort Hood is not too bad. I have not been stationed there...but I am from the area. It is a BIG post and there is alot to do around the area. There is a mall and actual grocery stores and Target. Austin is about an hour and half from there and Dallas is about 2 hrs from there. San Antonio is about 3 hrs from there and there is ton to do there As far as the weather...don't expect a harsh winter. It will be cold one day and hot the next. You will not have to pack up the summer clothes during the winter. During christmas you may be wearing shorts and a tank top on christmas day and a sweater and jeans the next. Crazy weather. Have fun there!!!
I was there in 98 for 31u class 505-98 and had a blast on and off post. Barton field will kick ya but during pt running in the sand… oh the ceremonies can be brutal, especially if you are lucky to be at a retirement ceremony for big brass.. I am sure much has changed since then but all I can say is…..have fun, act professional, take school seriously, stay out of trouble will give you a good time. Visit things off post but don't come back like a soup sandwich drunk and not expect issues…..have a safe AIT and Thanks for your service. Ironically I was med evaced out of Iraq in 03 to Rota, Walter Reed and good old Gordon. Sadly, I was only there a couple days …I was admitted to the hospital with very limited means to even leave my room…I wish it had been under better circumstaces that allowed me to see the base again. While waiting on ortho/Neuro team to decide if I was able to be transferred. closer to my home mob station they treated me so well. I also was there a few days until the Chaplin inquired as to why I was there and not my mob station. Good luck!
