What are the best sports movies?
1. The Rocky Series (Sylvester Stallone)One of the first Hollywood movies I watched was the Rocky Series, so I think it'll remain in my memory forever. Surprising no one mentioned it.A sports movie list without this movie is incomplete.2. Raging BullMartin Scorsese at his best. Robert De Niro at portraying Jake La Motta, his best so far. 3. Cinderella Man (Another boxer movie)I wonder how many people remember this. One of the best performances of Russell Crowe. Also won 3 Oscars I guess. 4. The Damned United One of the best sport movies I have ever seen. From what it portrays Brian Clough was definitely the 'best manager' the English National Team never had.Great picturisation and great actors.5.Million Dollar BabyHillary Swank and Clint Eastwood at their best. I think the less said about this film the better.6. Seabiscuit Not exactly our quintessential sports movie but about a racing horse. It is about an undersized and and under-rated horse who beats all the odds to win. No wonder the movie was nominated for 8 Oscar categories, sad it won none. I would be somewhat happy to say that Bollywood (Indian film industry) has done some justice to the sports genre, in spite of churning duds day in and day out.7. Lagaan Definitely the best Bollywood movie which culminates with the sport of Cricket. I also won't mince words while saying that it was as good as any of the Hollywood movies I've mentioned above. 8. Chak de India Clearly the best performance of SRK so far. 9. Bend It Like Beckham (Gurinder Chadha)Indian girl playing football.....!!! Hai Rabba!!!! :PNOTE: It is interesting to see that movies about boxers are usually great. Also Hollywood also depicts many films in the Great Depression era, thus showing how sports gave people a reason to smile during the crisis. Cinderella Man and Seabiscuit are both set in the Depression.
