What Is The Best Formula For Constipated Babies

What baby formula can I use for constipation?

It may just be something you have to work through. Breast milk is easier to digest, so of course it helped with the constipation. But all formulas are basically the same so it's very likely you'll experience the same thing if you switch to a different one. So I'd suggest speaking with her doctor. Keep in mind that even formula fed babies don't have bowel movements every day at this age. So she may not actually be constipated at all. Formula fed babies can go a couple days before passing a stool and still be considered normal. If the doctor has no suggestions, I'd say try a formula for three weeks and see what happens.

Baby Formula Question?

Ok this might be a book but your help is appreciated.

My daughter is 9 weeks old. She started off on enfamil regular with lipil(milk based, their closest formula to breast milk). This formula was causing her to projectile vomit. They did an upper gi and ultrasound to make sure everything inside was working well and it is so the vomiting was attributed to the formula possibly because of a milk allergy. The doctor then put her on enfamil prosobee soy based formula which constipated her really bad and made her stool very large and hard. We tried dark karo syrup, prune juice and neither would soften up her stool(a couple times it made her butt bleed). The doctor then put her on enfamil gentlease, a formula that has the milk lactose partially broken down for easier digestion(not fully broken down though so thus not lactose free). This formula proceeded to make her projectile vomit also. I just called the doctor and told her this and she told me to put her back on the prosobee soy based formula that constipates her.

My issue with this is that
A) no matter what we try to do to soften her stool when she is on the soy, it is still hard and I am afraid it will cause more trauma to her rectum.

B) We heard the doctor tell another patient in the next room over that there are an increasing number of babies on soy formula and soy is not good for babies.

C) It seems to me that she has a allergy to lactose and that if we gave her another enfamil product called lactofree which is milk based but lactose free, it would solve our constipation(no soy) and vomiting(no lactose) problems.

What should I do? Put her on the lactofree on my own?

I've heard molasses is good for constipated babies, but how much?

I have a 5 week old baby girl, and am now unable to brestfeed so i switched to formula a day and a half ago. She has only had one poopy diaper, is this normal? I heard molasses helps babies poops, is this true? If it is how much should I give and how?

Why can baby formula cause constipation in infants?

If your baby is formula fed, there are a few issues that can lead to constipation. Some babies do well on an organic formula that is formulated for sensitive digestive systems like If your baby is formula fed, there are a few issues that can lead to constipation.    Some babies do well on an organic formula that is formulated for sensitive digestive systems like Earth’s Best Sensitive Organic Infant Formula  or The Honest Company Organic Non GMO Sensitive Formula Infant Formula. Just switching to an organic formula might help your baby.  Organic formulas do not have any GMO ingredients and do not use toxic weed killers and pesticides.Nutramigen and Alimentum are other options to discuss with your pediatrician.  Nutramigen and Alimentum are extensively hydrolyzed.  They break the casein, a cow’s milk protein, into pieces that are more digestible for some infants.Neocate and EleCare are hypoallergenic, Amino Acid-based or elemental formulas.  If other options don’t work for your baby, these are ones to try.I would also ask your physician to run tests to see if your infant is allergic to cow’s milk, if so, and the amino acid-based formulas are still constipating your baby, then a goat’s milk-based formula can be a really good option for your baby.Just switching to an organic formula might help your baby. Organic formulas do not have any GMO ingredients and do not use toxic weed killers and pesticides. You can also discuss with your pediatrician or research yourself whether there is a milk bank in your area where you can get donated breast milk. For more information on what could be causing your baby's constipation and ideas on how to treat it, please read my article https://naturalconstipationsolut...If your baby is intolerant to cow’s milk, then most formulas can cause constipation.  Many people substitute soy formula instead of cow’s milk but I do not recommend soy formula. Soy, unless it is organic, is genetically modified. Many babies react to it.  Soy is also a known endocrine disruptor and can cause hormone issues down the road including precocious puberty in boys and girls.  I would avoid all soy formulas.

Does switching baby formula's cause constipation?

I switched baby formulas on my almost 3 month old. Unfortunately, she is extremely constipated. She screams everytime she tries to poo, and only manages to squeeze out a little pellat. It's heart wrenching. :( Is it possible that it's just the switch of formula's, or is it most likely the new formula? I would jump back to the old formula in a heart beat, but I'm afraid that if it's the switch, and I switch it again, I'll have her little belly all messed up. Please help!

What do you do for a baby who is 2 weeks old and is constipated?

It's always good to ask your pediatrician so I do hope you do that.   That said, my son had this problem.  He was only a week old when the constipation started.  Of course, my son was on formula.  Your pediatrician will probably tell you that if you're breastfeeding bowel movements can be infrequent at first.  For my son, it was the formula.  I gave him an ounce of prune juice when he couldn't go and seemed uncomfortable.  It worked as a temporary solution (no ill effects).  The permanent solution for us was to switch his formula to Emfamil Reguline.  It's the only one on the market that has probiotics.  After he started on that my son had no problems.  Now that he's almost 18 months old we make sure he has plenty of yogurt and fruits and vegetables.  We also make sure he drinks plenty of water.  Dehydration can really add to the problem.

Can you give Karo syrup to babies for constipation?

My son had problems with constipation from birth, we tried everything, special formulas, medications and various home remedies. Doctors were very dissimisve and would just suggest adding a little more water to his formula or similar useless advice.I made an appointment with a highly sought after pediatrician and in the mean time kept trawling the internet. Eventually I came across Lactulose. It's a type of syrup you can add to formula or food, we used it twice daily for about a week and after the first day he was cured! No more straining for 30 minutes followed by hours of screaming in pain and frustration. It was so wonderful.when the appointment with the ped rolled around I told him what I had discovered, he seemed concerned, he told me lactulose is habit forming so we should try to wean him off it then report back if the constipation remained. Fortunately it didn't, he seemed to be fixed for the most part, occasionally he would get backed up again and a couple of doses of lactulose would fix him right back up, this was especially common when he was starting solids, baby cereals and even oats would severely constipate him! He’s almost two now and hasn't had trouble with constipation for about a year so I guess perhaps his digestive tract was just a little immature.Anyway, I just wanted to share this info because I know how sad it is to deal with a baby in pain who can’t poop!

Witch formula is the best formula?

WITCH one huh?

The formula that is the best is the one that your child doesn't throw up or become gassy or constipated with. There really isn't a magic formula... it really depends on the baby.

Does Parents Choice formula cause constipation?

We have a 6 week old baby girl. Since 1 week old we've had her on Similac infant formula, and two days ago we changed over to Parents Choice - mainly because it is SO much cheaper and seems to be the same. Plus I figure all formulas made/sold in the USA must follow certain rules, etc...

Anyway, today she while having a BM she acted as if she'd never been in so much pain before, and we realized why when I changed her diaper... it looked like an adult poop! And it was pretty hard. So I'm assuming that this means she is constipated.

Has anyone had this same experience with Parents Choice formula? Do you think that this is because of the brand? Or perhaps its just from changing formula.

We're going back to Similac tomorrow =)
