Dell by far → My wife has a 2010 17R → came with W7 HP → Now W10 CE. It has never missed a beat. It is essentially on 14 hrs / day since new. Battery is fully discharged once a week → now here's the kicker it is still on the original battery which holds a charge for over two hours. It has ALWAYS been used on a HARD surface as never been able to overheat. I blow out the heat exchanger every 6 months & it's purring like a kitten I have a 2012 Dell XPS 8500 desktop & again never had ANY issues what so ever \\☺

I think HP brand is really good. I have HP Envy 14.5-Inch Relic Laptop PC. I like it. Intel I-5 460 is powerful enough for video editing and multi-task. The Beat sound is fantastic when a decent headphone is used. Very good graphics. It includes Adobe Premiere and Photoshop Elements full versions. I agree with Braden Dodge’s answer, I’d like to add, Acer’s laptops are good enough if you aren’t gonna move them, because I had two of those, a fully loaded travelmate and an AMD APU based Packard Bell (Entry Level). Both were kinda lent to me and I was responsible for both. The Packard Bell since day 1 of its purchase was with me for a whole year before I returned it after purchasing my own elitebook. And man, it accumulated scratches that even cheap chinese toy grade plastic doesn’t. Though it ran good considering that weak cpu, it was really really compatible with win 8 fastboot that sometimes I thought it had a hybrid drive. But hardware was weak, I was afraid to rub out a ball point mark from it afraid I might cause damage. It’s lcd cable came lose and it started showing a vertical line days before I returned it (I managed to tap it to make it work good for a few days). Travelmate was equally bad, a ripoff of thinkpad, heavy, thick, power consuming but not tough like a business notebook should be. Also had some aspires but experience was similar to what I wrote above.

They're all the same. I've been an IT pro for over 15 years. I have worked with all those brands, and more. The thing is that every brand will attract SOMEONE that has a horror story. This is because every factory pumps out a lemon from time to time; it's because every company hires a jerk of a support representative from time to time. Now obviously, Alienware will perform better than an eMachine, but you know, you get about the same bang for your buck. The eMachine is *designed* to be low-cost, and as a low-cost machine, it's pretty good. The only brand I would steer clear from is Sony, and that has nothing to do with performance, quality of product, or product support: I hate all Sony computers. They are proprietary. In other words, they don't use the same standards as everybody else. For example, the Sony memory stick. No other computer can read it, and Sony can't read what other computers use (SD). They come loaded with crap that is only useful if you own a Sony camcorder and a buttload of other Sony products. Worst of all, you can't get drivers for them. You can only get the "Recovery Disk." So in other words, if you want to upgrade, downgrade, or change your operating system, then you are screwed. Having said that, I also would recommend a Mac instead of a PC. Just take a look at a few pages of question in the Computers and Internet category here on Yahoo Answers. How often do PC owners ask about removing viruses and other malware? I challenge you to find even one single Mac owner asking that question.

Honestly, they are pretty similar. Both make high end and low end models. And in both cases, you get what you pay for.Budget machines of both brands tend to be very flimsy. I have seen everything from the keyboard to the power plug die with minimal abuse.Their higher end machines are better. One note: as far as I know, HP is the only of the two that produces business-type laptops (the ProBook series). These are a bit more rugged and have more expansion options at the cost of greater size and weight.
