What Is The Best Study Guide For The Word Knowledge Section On The Asvab

Best study guide for ASVAB?

The most recommended book is McGraw-Hill's ASVAB. (RAnd McNally makes maps, not ASVAB test prep books.) It has a comprehensive review of all the areas on the ASVAB, practice tests, items with explanations, word lists for you to study, math items to work on with explanations given, test taking hints for both the paper/pencil and computer versions, and 4, full-length practice tests. The practice tests will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you can concentrate your study in the right places.

Regardless of how you do on the practice tests, focus on the 4 tests that make up the AFQT. The AFQT is made up of 4 tests: Math Knowledge, Arithmetic Reasoning, Paragraph Comprehension and Word Knowledge. That is your initial score that gets you in -- or not if it is too low. The higher your AFQT, the more job options you have. The other ASVAB tests are combined in various ways with these 4 tests to qualify you for training in various occupations.

Good luck with your military career. With the McGraw-Hill books, you will blow the top off the test!

How to study the word knowledge for asvab?

Well I got an 82 overall on my ASVAB and for my MAGE it was 80+ 80+ 80+ and 93

The way I studied the word section was through flash cards. Make them or buy them. It also helps to learn the roots and origin of many words (pre-fixes, etc...)

Just study as much as you can. Some of them will be words you have never seen before...and since I only studied 100 new words...I would recommend studying at least 300. The word section is fast but it's either you know it or you don't.

Is word knowledge on the ASVAB as hard the one on the practice test?

I remember the practice test which I surprisingly did pretty good on half of them I had to guess because I never seen some of those words in my life. Even though I bough ASVAB for Dummies I will study them but is it as hard as they showed?

On the Air Force ASVAB, what is the best study guide, or how does one study to get a high score?

Just FYI, the asvab is the same for all branches. The airforce tends to have higher standards. If you consider yourself smart, you honestly probably don't need to study for it. And you can take it more than once. But if you want to do as well as you can the first time, there are plenty of study guides and practice tests out there. Consider how well you need to do to get the job you want. For example, if you want an intel job, you need to score high. If you want something like MP or mechanic, you can get away with scoring much lower.

The ASVAB is not that difficult. If you do reasonably well in high school then you will do well on the test.

What's a good way to study for an ASVAB test?

There is no way that you can study for the ASVAB. Trust me. Working with this test for 5 years I must know something about it.   It's either you know it or not. Each section of the test is Timed. You can know how to do Trig, Geometry and Physics and you can know every word in the dictionary but if you are Slow at doing the equations or answering the questions, you will not do well on the test.   THE TEST:   Because they score only the answers you get correct, of course any answer that you did not even get to will not be scored at all.   Here's what you do.  Do the best as you can in each section. On all military test, 2 answers are normally way out in left field and can be negated right away. This now gives you a 50/50 chance of getting the answer correct. If you know it great, if not, take your best guess.   Once you know that there is only say 30 seconds left, go down the list and check answer "C" or "B" but check the same answer all the way down the list.   By doing this, you have at least a 25% chance of getting a correct answer which is a lot better than 0% if you had left that answer unchecked.   Almost everyone that answers this question will tell you to get the ASVAB Study Guide and swear by it.   In my 5 years in working with kids taking this test, I've known some who have taken the test once, then tried using the study guides and have gotten worse scores the second time.   There are others who will again swear by the study guides. Those people probably would have scored just as well without.   The only thing I can say about the Study Guides is that it will give you a good idea of what type of answers to expect to see on the actual ASVAB. Thats it!.

Will studying SAT study guide help in answering the ASVAB test?

I will soon be taking an ASVAB exam to join the Air Force. I was wondering if an SAT study guide would help me pass it, especially the Word Knowledge part of the Exam. I can do well in Math. My only problem is my vocabulary. Please give me some advice where or which book is best that can help me study word knowledge. (I'm thinking of buying a thesaurus though, just thought that could help me too)

Thank you for your answers!
