What Is The Birthdate Of Generation Y Millenials

Whats Generation Y/Millennial?

it really depends since generations can overlap. and some people can be in between the later and the newer generation.

imo, generation y is anyone born in the 80's and 90's

you have the early generation y born in the 80's and later generation y born in the 90's

Is 2000 Generation Z or a millennial?

I thought millennial means someone born in the new millennium :/ because it sounds like a new millennium born and millennial :/

Is there another word for someone born in the new millennium?

Are Generation Y and Millennials two halves of the same generation?

Both terms are marketing-based, like Baby Boomers, Gen-X, and the Silent Generation. Generation Y and Millennials are the same group, no matter how you look at it. "Generation Y" is more like the official name, while "Millennial" is treated as the nickname. But you're right: it's unfair to group all those ages into one persona. So is the case with every generation, especially apparent with the Boomer generation. Born between 1946 and '64, they're called Boomers basically because their was a giant spike (or boom) in the national birthrate when all those soldiers came home from WWII and had babies. People born in 1964 were obviously not a part of that boom, but they are a part of that generation because they experienced the same social and economic events, in theory making them react similarly to different things.Someone who's good at their job will split out generations into sub-categories - and there are lots of fun nicknames for those. Like the younger Boomers (born after 1958) are called the Jones Generation because of their apparent need to "keep up with the Joneses"--at least more so than others in their generation. While the Millennial Generation is split up right now just by life events, it hard to ultimately define our "personality". So all that stuff you see about how Millennials are so different from previous generations is really just us figuring out life in a different environment than our predecessors. In the next 5-10 years, our collective habits and personality will solidify, eliminating most controversial themes that are thrown around when talking about Millennials. Here's a video that addresses the issue of keeping Millennials all lumped together in a marketing context: (not super great quality, but good info from the perspective of someone in the field!)

Why do we call Generation Y ‘millennials’ despite Generation Z being born closer to the millennium?

Gen Y joined the workforce around the turn of the Millennium, and they’re more profoundly impacted by world events that took place at that time.

When did Generation Y become synonymous with millennials?

Gen Y was a generic term applied to the Millennials before their character was sufficiently matured to the extent they had characteristics truly different from Gen X. Gen X itself is an expression of confused puzzlement by the Baby Boomers in sorting out their offspring, so it isn’t to hard to understand how Gen Y was even more difficult for the elders to sort and stack with labels and terms. Gen Y is a pretty meaningless term (Gen X at least has a literary history from the 1950s) and probably should be dropped. Even the youngest Millennials are no longer children and shouldn’t be confused with the older group.
