Do we really need 6GB or 8GB RAM on our phone?

There are many phones out there that have 6–8GB of RAM on board. That's 4GB more than most other high-end Android phones (and Chromebooks and cheap Windows Laptops) have and about 6GB more than the absolute bare minimum you can get away with. I will answer the question right here in the first paragraph: No, you do not need 8GB of RAM in a phone. With 8GB of , the whole user interface can not only be kept in RAM, but done with a real reserved block outside of the system memory parameters. Most companies making Android phones do something similar now and set things up so that parts of the launcher are never removed from RAM, and Android feels much better to use because of it. With 4GB of RAM, getting a balance that offers good performance without upsetting users who want to keep apps open in the background can be tough.Writing a device driver that enables DMA (Direct Memory Access) for the user interface means RAM can be set aside for use by only the user interface. The operating system still controls the i/o, but no other application can overwrite any part of it so everything needed for "instant" scrolling and swiping is held in RAM where it's fast and ready at all times.I'll end this the same way we started: by saying no, you don't need 8GB of RAM in a phone. But it doesn't hurt anything, and the creative freedom it gives to Android developers, both the company andthird-party devs, could very mean some cool things will be coming.Courtesy: Android Central

What's the best/cheapest way to use a U.S. iPhone in Taiwan?

Make sure you bring an unlocked iPhone with you, it must be unlocked to use a Taiwan SIM card. When you first arrive in Taiwan you should get your prepaid SIM card at the airport. They will give you the best deals. Don't worry too much if you didn't get it there they are available at all phone stores. Technology is highly advanced in Taiwan and super cheap. We use DaGeDa大哥大 but there are several others. A sim good for one month will cost about $20.00 usd and that is unlimited high speed data and some local phone minutes. I always tell people to download Skype before they come because if you download here the page is all in Chinese characters. When you get Skype make sure you turn on auto renew and add a credit card. For $10.00usd you can call all over the world for about .02c a minute. And with unlimited data that means you can call anytime. Most here will download Line app which allows you to call local people on their Line. Everyone here in Taiwan uses it. If they don't you will use your phone minutes and if you run out you can call local or long distance with your Skype. Unlimited data means you can surf the net, download or stream movies and this system works all over Taiwan no matter where you are it works. If you are staying longer than a month you can get even cheaper prepaid SIM cards. If it's less then you can choose the plan you need. But, they are all super affordable and work great. I live in Taiwan and have a website designed to help people travel or live here. Please take a look and if you need any other help I offer free travel advice. Home | Discover Taiwan Adventures just fill in a request more information page and we can get started on your trip. Looking forward to hearing from you!

It’s ridiculous how cheap such iPhones can be had for on, say, a two-year contract.
