What Is The Climate Of The Pacific Ocean

Have we killed all life in the Pacific Ocean?

A simple stroll along any beach or rocky shore anywhere on the Pacific coastline will reassure you that there is plenty of life in that ocean. Any fisheries survey will convince you of the same thing. Asking any actual commercial fishing boat crew and they will tell you that they are likely still fishing, and plan to go out again. Any marine biologist, in any country bordering the ocean, spending a life studying the various kinds of plankton or fish, will tell you that she still has as much to study as she ever did. Any satellite photo of the chlorophyll colors in the water will reassure you that there is plenty of phytoplankton in the Pacific. It is true that at least one large animal species, the Stellar Sea Cow, was eliminated in an earlier century. It is also true that larger individuals of blue fin tuna are much reduced in numbers, and larger individuals of several other species are reduced in numbers. The overall populations of heavily fished species if fish are lower than they were long ago. The numbers of big whales are mostly not recovered from the heavy fishing they were subjected to, years ago. Nevertheless, in general, the life in the Pacific is exuberantly alive.

What is the climate on Earth if the Pacific Ocean has a 9000 km floating continent and has mountains as high as 4,000 to 20,000 km?

A mountain as high as 20,000km means this planet either self destroys due to the mass inbalance on a floating continent or is way,way large than it current is. G forces would be much higher for everyone and the planet would not sustain life anymore. Like mars but worst. At 20,000km you are reaching some of high altitude satellites currently in orbit. The international space station would crash on those mountains and we wouldn’t have GPS or satellite phone services. Probably only the geosyncronous satellites would be spared briefly but the orbital mechanics and planet mass would make them fall quickly.

What is the climate of the pacific coast?

The pacific coast has a Marine climate. The climate includes a mild, moist marine clmate, with warm summer and cool winters. I'm working on climates as well. We just did this in class today. Hope that helps!!

What is distinct about the Pacific Ocean?

Size first comes to mind. The Polynesians, who settled most of it 400 years before Columbus is also unique.

How does the pacific ocean affect the climate of western Canada.?

How do ocean currents affect climate?

The ocean currents are a major factor in the climate of this planet. Many regions experience weather patterns and temperatures that are related primarily to the effect of ocean currents. Other weather patterns like hurricanes and El Niño events are also strongly affected by ocean currents.

Ocean currents in the Northern Hemisphere circulate in clockwise patterns around the basins. These are known as gyres. The Gulf Stream which moves northward up the western side of the Atlantic Ocean basin is responsible for moderating and warming the climate of Ireland, England, and northern Europe. The equatorial currents that move westward across the Pacific Ocean are an intrinsic part of the climate patterns known as El Niño and the Southern Oscillation. This climate pattern effects North and South America, Australia, India, eastern Asia, and even parts of Africa. Even Western Europe can statistically relate flooding events to El Niño. In years when El Niño is active hurricanes in the Atlantic have been found to be less active.

One scientist proposed that sub sea eruptions along the East Pacific Rise might be creating large volumes of rising heated water that would periodically mess up the ocean currents and cause the changes of weather patterns associated with El Niño/Southern Oscillation events. Another scientist attempting to verify this discovered that the El Niño events actually precede swarms of seismic activity in that area, and suggested the El Niño may actually be triggering the sub sea volcanic eruptions by slight changes in sea level and water pressure over the mid-ocean ridges.

Another important ocean current circulates deep in the oceans and actually moves through each of the world’s oceans in a continuous slow-moving belt known as the Conveyor. This is driven by cold, salty, North Atlantic water that sinks and moves southward to the Antarctic, where it moves eastward into the Pacific, and then northward to the North Pacific, where it turns and moves back through the Indian Ocean and toward the North Atlantic again. It is estimated that if the Conveyer were to shut down, the North Atlantic region would be 20 degrees F. colder within ten years, and much of Europe would have a climate more like northern Norway has today.

Which ocean is warmer, the atlantic or pacific?

Generally the Pacific.

Trust me. Here's a thought: When you think of surfers and surfing, are you thinking New York or California? Greenland or Hawaii?

That's because the climate in the Pacific area is much warmer, as is the ocean water.
