What Is The Device Called That Hospitals Use To Draw Blood

Which finger is used to prick for a blood test and why?

Generally, a good clinician will use the ring or middle finger, for a couple of practical reasons. The pricking device has to be pushed into the pad of the finger with enough pressure that the spring loaded blade activated and cuts to a certain depth. That being said:The thumb has more nerves and is used a lot more so having a cut there would be more painful and annoying. The index finger is also often used so it would be annoying. The pinky is thinner than your other fingers and as such there is more risk of the blade going too deep and injuring something more than just a vein. These are the main reasons most people would pick the middle/ring finger, although any fingers blood would yield the same test values, so that isn’t an issue. And of course if you are dealing with a neonate you would perform a heel stick where you prick the foot.

What do you call the device Paramedics use to monitor life signs?

I was recently witness to a tragic accident. I watched the paramedics hook the victim to a machine that monitors life signs. They attached a wire with a sticky pad to the back of both hands and one to his chest. They used this machine to pronounce him dead.

What to you call this machine?

What did the inside of american 1800s asylums look like?

I would like to know what the inside of an 1826 mental patient's room might look like. I'm pretty sure they were not padded until 1839, correct?
So--what would it have been like? Does anybody know?
How about a more violent patient?

What happens if you refuse field sobriety tests and request blood test?

Lets just say for instance, I get pulled over and I've had couple of beers. The officer can tell I've been drinking, he asks a bunch of questions and I politely decline to answer and invoke my 5th amendment. At this point the officer is frustrated that I'm not willing to cooperate in answering him, so he wants me to do field sobriety tests. I say no, and that I would like to have a blood sample withdrawn. What happens now? I'm in California by the way.
