What Is The Difference Between Access Point Name Apn And Ssid

What is the difference between WiFi and a mobile hotspot?

Wi-Fi is a protocol for short-range transmissions over radio frequencies, mostly in the range of 2.4 and 5 GHz. Since Wi-Fi makes use of unlicensed radio spectrum, anyone may use it subject to restrictions on radiated power from the emitting device and its antenna(s). Wi-Fi may be connected to a local area network or to the Internet, but is not a source of Internet access on its own without an underlying Internet service (a wide area network).A mobile hotspot accesses radio frequencies provided by a cellular operator, which with the exception of LTE-U/LAA, are generally in frequency ranges not used for Wi-Fi. Cellular spectrum costs billions of dollars in countries like the US, and cellular base stations used to access Internet over cellular networks also constitute a major investment. Cellular Internet access received by a mobile hotspot may be shared with client devices using Wi-Fi, but the frequencies and protocols used differ. A mobile hotspot (“MiFi”) is a cellular modem and Wi-Fi router integrated in a single device. A public Wi-Fi hotspot, though, could use a variety of Internet access methods to receive Internet connectivity, whether that's cable modem, passive optics, DSL, etc.

Can you steal a wifi password by creating a fake access point with a similar name to the original one?

I was part of a team writing the firmware for a wireless router.First, as another poster said, this was probably your router. Most firmwares for dual band devices append something to each radio's SSID (network name) by default so you can tell them apart.Second, the type of attack you're thinking of is called an evil twin attack. But to make it work, the attacker needs to name their hostile AP exactly the same as your AP. You generally don't see that sort of thing against a residence; it's most common in public places like airports, coffee shops, etc.Even if it was an evil twin, they can't get your WPA PSK (wifi password). The negotiation protocol never transmits the PSK. Instead, both sides exchange info allowing both to derive a session key. If the PSK matches, the session key will match and messages will decrypt properly. An evil twin is still dangerous, however. If you connect to a hostile AP, they can see all your traffic and modify it. If you don't use a VPN, they can probably get enough to steal one or more of your online accounts. In addition, if you don't use a firewall on your computer, the hostile access point can try to access your computer.

What is the difference between server name and hostname?

Working in IT industry for >1 year, and having experience on migration projects; there need to be few clarifications on this topic.Hostname: A name for your system, something like Marys’(personal systems), A2***333(official systems, random strings, will not make sense to you, but for your employer it does). This is basically a name tag, a person name is Adam, a system name is QUCPS02WSX, etc.In windows, you can see this as “Computer Name” in your system properties. In linux based system, you can see this by typing “hostname” on bash shell.ServerName: Now, most of the personal systems doesn’t belong to any domain. But lets’ say my office name is “abc”. Thus making the server name for my system like “A2***333.abc.com”.So, if my system is hosting some application, you can type in my FQDN(maybe browser, maybe third party tools), so that you can consume the content I am serving.Trivia:Also, a person typing just “abc.com” would be oblivious to what hostname he wants to visit, because generally, various systems serves the same content in a load balanced fashion. So that no server gets overloaded. H doesn’t even need to know hostnames.

How do I turn off proxy settings in Chrome for Android?

This will open the Internet Properties window.Under “Local Area Network (LAN) settings”, click on LAN settings.Under “Automatic configuration”, uncheck Automatically detect settings. Also make sure Use a proxy server for your LAN is unchecked too.Click OK, and OK.

What happens if there are two Wifi networks with the same name (within range of each other)?

Nothing to worry if both the Wi-Fi networks are secured as the devices from the other network may try to connect to the wrong network but would fail authentication. However, if either of the network is open there is a good possibility of users from the other network being inadvertently connecting to the open network and that may impact the working of such users as internal network resources would not be available.

Why am I not able to connect to internet in my laptop by using mobile hotspot?
