What is the difference between french and american dining culture?

The difference is huge- it's like night and day! One of the best aspects of French culture is the respect for food. It is treated like an art here. In America, I was shocked to see that people thought of food fights as entertainment. You'd never see that in France.

French cooks (and French people in general) take great care in preparing food and presenting it, and people can easily take a couple of hours or even more savoring the richness and every detail of the food they're eating. Believe me, I've gone through these sort of meals! France has preserved great culinary traditions, so we know all kinds of ways of preparing food really well. Also, it's not just the meticulous preparation in itself, it's the food *being* prepared. France is still very agricultural and it's only until recently that fast food is really starting to spoil the great dining culture of France.

Remember that France is a slow country in comparison to America, which is full of dynamic, so it shows in the dining part of our culture. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and good luck on doing your research paper! :)

Pancakes VS. french crepes????

I'm assuming that you know what a pancake is like so I'll give you the info crepes. Unlike pancakes, crepes are unleavened (no yeast, baking soda, or baking powder in the batter). A good pancake batter will be like a very thick melted milkshake in consistency. Crepe batter is very thin like melted ice cream. Crepe batter contains more eggs than pancake and really could be thought of as a floury omelet. When cooked a little bit of batter is poured into a lightly buttered crepe pan and is rolled around so that a very thin crepe is formed. A good crepe will be thinner than a flour tortilla, but tender like a pancake and should not be greasy. The French also make a larger crepe (Brittany style) that is about 10" in diameter and cooked on a special griddle rather than in a pan that is often used filled like a tortilla and then folded into a square. Crepes are good filled with just about anything from fruit and ice cream to beef stew.

Here are the ingredient lists for basic, crepes and pancakes for you to compare:

Crepes
1 cup flour
2 eggs
1-1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 pinch salt

Pancakes
1 cup flour
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 pinch salt

Why are French people so fit?

I was born in France and spent most of my life there. I’ve lived in the US for about 20 years. Here are my thoughts:We don’t/can’t snack as much: Our eating habits are a little different than they are in the US. Snacking is less common, at home and outside the home. Few of our restaurants are open “all day” so it forces people to eat at set times. We take more time to eat: We generally take more time to eat. You’ll rarely find people eating standing up in France. To this day, I’d rather not eat than to eat in a rush. This habit has indirect effects on our digestive speed. I read somewhere that it takes about 20–30 mins for someone to realize that they are full. So, the slower you eat, the more time you give your body to tell you that you’re full…and therefore you stop eating earlier! We typically have smaller portions: our food plates (home/restaurant) are at least 25% smaller than the ones from what I’ve noticed. Our drink cans are 2/3 the size of the ones you’ll see at regular stores and last time I checked, I could hardly find any ‘king-size’ snack bars. Finally, I think that our infrastructure is more ‘walk-friendly’. I’ve noticed that, even in big cities in the US, going around without a car is a major pain. Europe was built around people and horses. The US was built around cars. I think that, as a consequence, the average French person must walk a lot more than the average American person. For data on obesity by country, check out OCDE’s report here[1] and below.Footnotes[1] Obesity and the Economics of Prevention: Fit not Fat - France Key Facts

Why does Coke taste different from one country to another?

Coke taste changes over time as the ingredients blend and soften, it is not a completely stable flavor profile. Like wine, it evolves over time and should be drank as fresh as possible. Other than that, there is absolutely no difference in the Coke formula anywhere in the world, and Coke spends unbelievable amounts of money on quality control to make sure that’s true. the only change that is allowed is the type of sugar - cane sugar, sugar or high fructose corn syrup are the only options, and those cause some different mouth feels which changes the experience for sure.
