Yes he is a fine guitarist who is in an astonishing 3rd place on Rolling Stone's list of top 100 guitar players ever. He is generally considered one of the "3 Kings" of Blues guitar, along with Albert King and Freddie King, and he helped to define a new way of guitar Blues playing, involving lots of soloing and long notes, which can be heard played by countless guitarists, he's hugely influential. So yeah, he effectively defined a new way of playing the blues. Listen to the 3 Kings and you should hear the style I'm on about. He's 86 and still going strong too.
