What Is The Legal Age To Drop Out

What is the legal age in NYC to drop out of school?

Every day I walk through the Port Authority Bus Terminal, and pass homeless people who have their cups out.    I try to make sure that I always have some change on hand to deposit, so this evening on my way home I'll ask them.If anybody knows the correct drop-out age, it will be the homeless citizens of this fair city.   Would you like to join them?

What is the legal age to drop out in California?

I will be turning 16 in 2 months, I hate school, always have, plain and simple. I haven't learned anything at all. I feel that I'm wasting my time.

I'm pretty sure it is 16 with parental consent, I was just wondering if the law has changed at all.

So, here is my plan for those of you who say I will ruin my life.

I will get my work permit before I drop out, then I will drop out. My father and I have known a really nice man who has owned a print shop for 25+ years. The man is really nice and already offered me a job. I already have a truck so transportation will not be any worry.

During the time of me being 16-18, I will work full time and get my diploma online. I will also be doing side jobs and merchanting things on the internet and at my local pier.

I will save ALL the money I make during those 3 years because I will still be living at home.

Once I turn 18, I will go to college and get my bachelors degree in graphic design. (This college doesn't require a highschool diploma.) If you're wondering what college it is, it is the Art Institute of California. After I get my degree, I will find a career in Graphic Design and do side business also.

As for the cost of college, my grandmother will most likely pay for most if not all. If not, I will get financial aid and/or a grant because my mom is a single mother and we are low-income.

Under certain circumstances, you can.  Text from the relevant statute, found at EDUCATION CODE CHAPTER 25. What Is The Legal Age To Drop Out Of School In Virginia?

I dropped out at 15 with parental consent due to bullying. Without consent it's 18. But I live in MA so I don't know how other states work. I don't regret dropping out so I don't oppose it depending on the circumstances. But I did go back and get a diploma at 21. Online thru Lincoln Academy. 5 tests and done.

People will tell you stay in school, only losers drop out but sometimes you just need to take a different path in life. I'm no different than anyone who stayed til graduation. I still graduated on my own time from home and I'm not a deadbeat.

Do what's best for you.

At what age is legal to drop school in the United States?

In CA you used to be able to bail (with parental permission) at 16 provided you could pass the California High School Proficiency Examination. It's supposedly an 8.5 hour test covering everything you need to know in order to graduate. I say supposedly 8.5 hours because it took me 4.6 hours with a grade of 97%. This was circa 1978.Not sure what the requirements are now... probably just a GED test.

What is the legal age to drop out of high school in California?

I know where I live, you can't legally drop out; you'd have to attend an alternative school until you're 18. If you don't do that, your parents could get arrested.

Goodluck and please don't give up! Sounds like you only have a couple more years to go... don't start walking when you're almost by the finish line!

At what age can I legally drop out of school in the United States, California?

I'll give you some great life advice right now so listen up. I was like you, I was to smart for school, didn't bother trying because I had my life planned out and didn't need the skills they where teaching. I was wrong. Nothing worked out like I planned. Things outside of school are a lot harder than you think. You won't get the job you want right away. You will be broke and have no idea what your going to do. You can NOT make it in life without a diploma, the world is changing to fast. Hell even McDonald's wants you to have a diploma now. The military won't take GEDs anymore. Good luck getting into college or trade school. The point is you need it whether you want it or not, scrape by if you have to because having it is better then dropping out. Now for my advice, I'll tell you the same thing my papa told me and its the best advice I ever got. Go to school and learn a trade. Learn the skills that are always going to be needed. Something a computer can't replace. Once you have your trade skills no one can ever take that from you. You will always have work and money. You can always provide for yourself. I chose construction and the military. You made it this far why give up now?
