What Is The Mechanism Of Working Of A Motorbike

How does a motorbike work?

It all starts when you put the key into the ignition. The electrical systems come alive, in technical terms: the circuit is completed. Now, you have to choose between two starting options, kick-start or self-start. If you choose kick-start, the force generated by your kick should generate enough power to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy. In nonprofessional terms, a spark produced. In the self-start option, the electrical system of the bike produces a spark by itself (don’t know the details how). The piston that is lined up in the engine block moves thanks to the kick and/or spark produced. There could be a single piston or two (more powerful engines). The end of the piston is attached to a shaft that rotates. Fuel is sprayed into the compartment at the same time when a spark is produced. This creates a small explosion in the chamber. This explosion drives the piston down which moves the shaft (mentioned above). This shaft is attached to a gear head (sprocket) that is linked to other gears, which is in-turn attached to the chain. There are also gears (read gears of the bike 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). This is where the clutch comes into play. On top of the sprocket, lays a flywheel. This flywheel helps you shift gears. When the clutch is pressed (by hand), the flywheel is placed over the sprocket making it possible to shift gears (1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc.). Neutral is when there is no gear lined up with the sprocket. This should give you a pictorial demonstration of how an engine works. The principle is the same across all the bikes.Hope this helps.

What should I do if the self start on my motorbike is not working properly?

Not working properly = no sound when you press the button, check battery connections. If that's OK, kick start (if there is kick start) and run around for 5 mins and see if that fixes the issue. Else get the battery & starter motor checked. Not working properly = sound but engine not cranking, try using choke. Next get the engine checked / clutch checked. Else get the starter mechanism checked. Not working properly = dying on you intermittently, check battery as well as the starter motor.

Engines: How does the throttle mechanism work in motorcycles?

The system can be put on simple terms. Now, imagine yourself walking. I don't think that you'e be able to recognise your breathing. Now start walking fast. You may breathe a little faster and when you start running, you'd be gasping for air. You'd be taking in long breaths with increased frequency. It's that our body, when it works out more, it needs more oxygen to break down blood sugar into energy. Same way, when you throttle, you bike needs more fuel and more air to produce increased combustion to propel you faster. In a naturally aspirated (no fuel injection mechanism - a pump will pump the fuel and a processor will tell when and where the pumped fuel will flow), there'll be a carburetor (a simple cylinder - one side to the engine manifold & the other side to get in the fresh air - with a control valve at the inlet & a small inlet opening attached to the side of the cylinder for fuel entry), where when you increase the throttle, the valve at the entry of the carburetor will open more letting in more air which in turn pulls out more fuel. Hence, increased combustion and increased power. That's all!Have a good day :)

What is the mechanism by which the throttle of a bike controls the speed of a bike/scooter?

The engine of a moto/scooter needs 3 things to generate power via mini explosions inside the combustion chamber of the head (the same 3 things that fire needs to burn):AirFuelSparkThe throttle controls the air inlet - actuated by a flat, metal plate, or butterfly valve (in gold below):This butterfly is connected to one end of a braided metal wire cable. The other end of that cable is anchored and wrapped around a round cam at the end of a throttle tube in the right handgrip.Twist the throttle, and the butterfly opens, allowing more air in. The electronic fuel injection or carburator reciprocates with the proper amount of fuel, and the ignition system fires the spark plugs in time. Viola!*High end motorcycles are now phasing out the mechanical actuated cables with digital systems, called throttle-by-wire or fly-by-wire.

My yamaha sr 125 motorbike will not start?

My motorbike will turn over from electric start but it wont start up. The spark plug has been replaced and is new (too see if it would fix it). The battery is not flat , and spark plug does produce a good spark. I have tried to put fuel in the bore through the spark plug hole but make completly no difference. I can only hear the starter motor turning the engine, and it is turning the engine because the piston can be seen moving up and down through the spark plug hole when the starter motor is on.I have looked for blockages in the carb and put the jets in petrol for a bit, but it has made no difference. I think there is comprssion because air is felt when i put my hand over the exsaust but i dont know how much.

Can you hotwire a motor bike?

All 70's and 80's bikes can be easily hotwired.(and most 90's too) Some a little easier than others.
Some bikes all you gotta do is bridge a thick-gauge wire or any metal tool between the Pos terminal and Starter post.

Other bikes you gotta bridge the coils, very simple.

Your best defense is to just put a very well hidden alarm or LoJack on the bike.
Anti-hotwiring mechanisms are usually pointless.

90% of bike theft rings have 2 to 4 guys.
They will simply pick your bike up and load it into the back of a van. They got all the time in the world to defeat your mechanisms when it's sitting in a garage.

Your best chances at keeping your bike are to install a motion activated alarm, with a hidden battery, when the bike is moved while armed, it will be LOUD.
They WILL move on and pick someone else for their next target, thiefs do not want to draw attention.

When stored at home, drop top dollar for expensive chains specially made for bikes.
Most bike shops have heavy duty bike chains for $130+.
And you need more than a sawzaw and torch to cut threw them.
However you should spend most of your money on a very expensive lock.
Thiefs typically drill the locks, because forged chains require a bigger arsenal of tools and more time to defeat.
Locks are always the weak point if your
usually extremely heavy chains
