What Is The Name Of The Part That Connects The Engine To The Outdrive On A Mercruiser

How can I start my mercruiser 5.7L V8 without out drive attached?

You'll notice a inlet hole at the thermostat housing. That's the best place to connect. You should be able to follow it back to where the stern drive connects. You might have a little trouble getting the water hose to connect to the housing, but a couple adapters should make it easier. Good luck!

Can I remove a 454 engine from a Merc Alpha One without removing the stern drive?

The engine block is cracked and I want to remove it to work on it this winter, but I don't want to go thru the trouble of removing the stern drive today because I don't want to be out in the cold that long. Do you know the fastest way to get the engine out?

Will a V6 Mercruiser engine line up with the outdrive from a V8?

A V6 is plenty of power for a 19 foot boat, even a 4 cylinder would work. The problem is the front engine mounts, and cutting the stringers to fit them, then you need the correct exhaust y-pipe. Then the wiring harness. After all that then you need a new outdrive, as the gear ratio would be incorrect for the motor! All V8 engines run a 1.50:1 gear ratio, 6 cylinder engines run a 1.84:1, and 4 cylinder engines run a 1.98:1 gear ratio! The best bet would be for you to purchase a marine 350 long block to install as 305 are not available anymore. The 305 engines had a problem with cracking internally just above the lifters. As your's may be! ________NICE TRY BUTTCRACK Read my post then redo your's! If re-propping would work then they would only make one gear ratio !!!

How do I bypass power steering pump and completely get rid of it?

What do you mean when you say that the pump can't be repaired or replaced? If it's a matter of not being able to afford to fix it or you can't get the parts, then you are probably going to be without a truck for a while until you can get it fixed properly. While it may technically be possible to do away with the power steering, it is most likely going to be more difficult and more expensive than making repairs (if you want it to be safe at all).Vehicles that have power steering simply aren't designed to be driven without it. You will cause damage to other steering components such as the rack or gearbox. Not only that, but vehicles are geared differently now. The steering on a non powered vehicle was designed to function without hydraulics. Without power, a modern system's steering radius is affected greatly, they literally can't turn as far without power. The heavier the vehicle, the harder it is to steer without power. In particular, I would not attempt to drive any pickup(or larger vehicle) on the road without power steering. There's simply to much risk. There are only two times when I would even consider driving a vehicle with failed power steering:In an emergency. Either I need to get the vehicle home, or I need to get someone to a hospital and have no other options. It's a farm vehicle, the only thing I use it for is moving a few tools around a field.I've had to move two modern vehicles with failed power steering. The first was a Honda Civic that wouldn't run. We dragged it about ten miles with me steering the car. It was really hard to turn at all, and that was with a fairly lightweight car. Afterwards it felt like I'd spent the entire day weightlifting, just from a short drive. The other vehicle was my friend's Dakota pickup. I went out with him to get the truck. The pump had failed and we needed to get it back to his house so that we had space and tools to work with. We got it started, he hopped in to drive, and I followed in my car. I followed him right up until he plowed into a tree on a particularly sharp turn. He simply couldn't make the turn without power steering. He ended up with a tow bill, body shop bill, the repair bill for the pump, and a hospital visit on top. That's why I will never recommend doing away with power steering on a vehicle.

How do I bleed a mercruiser alpha one trim/tilt? It will tilt up but not down.?

For the older styles:
Rams complete in.
Remove the lines on both the rams.
Fill the pump reservoir and run "up" until a stream of oil comes out both the (up) lines, connect these to the rams up port (ports that are the most to the boat).
Fill the reservoir.
Run the pump (up) until the rams are full out.
Fill the reservoir.
Run the pump down until oil comes out the two remaining (down) lines and connect these to the remaining port on the ram also.
Fill the reservoir
Now run the pump down, some oil will/ can overflow out the reservoir !
Run complete up/ down several times.... ready.
Sometimes the pump check valve stucks in the up position and needs a rebuild.
Oh, ehh ... clean up the mess under the pump reservoir. :)

What outdrive fits on a chevy 350?

It's a bit more tricky than just what drive can be used. Your description leads me to think that you have an OMC "stringer" drive.... the drive is painted white, and has a very large rubber transom boot around the outside of the drive. You might have a OMC Cobra Engine/Drive Painted a dark gray..........

The transom cut-out for the OMC Stringer unit is to large to fit either the Cobra, Volvo, or Mercruiser transom shields over. Thus it will require extensive transom rebuilding, or the use of an Aluminum transom plate.

If you have a Cobra drive now, OMC Cobra drives are available, and the cut-out is the same as Mercruiser.

Each manufacturer has different gear ratios, and methods of connecting the drive to the engine, so it's more than just bolting the drive to the bell-housing.

Bottom line, with used boat prices at all time lows, I'd look to sell what you have and get something newer, with a Mercruiser or Volvo drive.

Why is my power steering stiff?

I just bought a 21ft rinker bowrider w/ a 4.3l mercruiser motor and outdrive (CHEVY). On the first run on water the steering was extremely stiff. At first i could hardly turn the wheel. Eventually it loosened up a bit but still stiffer than i would have expected. I checked the fluid when i got the boat out of the water and the resevour was full. Any tips to troubleshooting?
