What Is The Official Reason As To Why Tobacco And Alcohol Are Legal And Marijuana Is Not

Why are alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine legal drugs and marijuana an illegal drug? ?

because you can't tax marijuana...
and the public has largely accepted it's illegal status as the status quo..

If it were legal...any burn-out with more than two functional brain cells can grow a marijuana plant in bad soil.... why would anyone need to buy it ?

Tobacco is not easy at all to grow...and only grows in certain climates, good soil.

Big tobacco has been the biggest road block to legalization...they veiw marijuana as a safer non-addictive alternative to tobacco...they've lobbied against ever peice of propopsed legalization...even medical marijuana.

It should be legalized for the same reason alcohol was legalized in the 30's... Because being illegal it creates a black market, organized crime, and a sub culture of second class citizens..

Why is alcohol and tobacco legal but marijuana isn't?

It isn't that bad. I tend to think people could drive better after smoking a bowlful than if they slammed back three beers.

Marijuana criminalization is an example of 1930's Prohibitionistic law. During that time, alcohol, opium, cocaine, and some other drugs were made illegal.

And the reason why alcohol and ciggies are permitted is because of its wide-spread usage. About 8% of the American population have used pot in the last year. This is compared to about 25% with tobacco and 70% with alcohol.

While I doubt much will change with the laws, I think the American populace is slowly coming towards your ideas. Many places have banned smoking in a lot of places, more states are increasing the tobacco purchase age to 19 or 21 (proposed, but not law, in some states) and more and more places are decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana in small portions (usually less than one oz). I would say in 20 years, smoking age will go to 19 nation-wide, drinking age will be reduced to 19, and marijuana laws will be lessened. I think as kids more and more use dangerous drugs like pills, inhalants or do "the choking game", Americans will realize that a little weed or a coupla beers would be a much better thing for kids to do (if they're going to do something)

Personally, I say sell pot in the liquor stores behind the counter and just make everything 19 to buy. It works in Amsterdam! Just add another year to it so it makes it a little more difficult for 15 yr olds to get beer/weed from high school seniors.

What is the real reason marijuana is still illegal while alcohol and tobacco products, (which have proven to be deadly and highly addictive) are legal?

Because originally it competed with fossil fuels as the best source of bio-fuel. Along with industry’s profits from synthetic, replacements like nylon and pharmaceuticals that have driven the reefer madness campaign of lies, to demonize the competition.Law enforcement budgets that relied on alcohol prohibition were in jeopardy with the ending of prohibition so they quickly took up the cause of prohibiting weed to keep the cash flowing. After decades of this protection racket run by public servants, with our tax dollars, millions of innocent people have been arrested and worse, while all along the leaders knew it should not be a crime and that they were the criminals. So now prohibition continues by these shiesters who want to keep making money off of it in various ways, while the people responsible for allowing it, keep up the lies about “public safety’ issues and, ”cannabis harms the developing brain” narratives to protect their sorry asses from the punishment they sorely deserve. In reality of course Cannabis use carries with it none of the problems associated with alcohol, tobacco or big pharma, and it should be widely promoted by our governments as a smart alternative.

Why is alcohol legal and marijuana or opium not?

In England, a recent drug related scientific test was undertaken & it was found that Alcohol was the 4th most dangerous drug only beaten marginly by Nicotine, Crack cocaine & Heroin. The thing is Alcohol kills more people than the last two. In the UK alone there are over 40 million users.. It was stated; if Alcohol had been discovered in this day & age that it would be deemed in the same class as Heroin, Crack Class A... Marijuana is addictive in the sense it is habit forming but was way down the list about 16th if I remember.

At the end of the day, all drugs have the ability to destroy lives, it is up to the indivdual to prevent this from happening but the governments do have a huge responsibilty in trying to close down huge criminal gangs...

N.B Sorry it was 5th I forgot the Barbituates.

Double standard or not? Alcohol & tobacco are legal: cause more problems/damage yet marijuana is illegal.?

Hint: the ones who agree it should be legal stnad a FAR better chance of getting best answer so if you're going to bash Mary Jane you're wasting your time. Try going to church since you people love say it to ME all the time!

Is there a good reason for drugs being illegal but not alcohol and cigarettes?

Yes and no.Any intoxicant causes immeasurable amounts of harm to your body.I say immeasurable, because that is literally the case. Every intoxicant affects each person differently. Some people get lung cancer from smoking for several years, and some live into their 90s without so much as a cough. The problem with Drugs, is that it’s too easy to overdose. On any drug - apart from Cannabis. And overdosing on Alcohol or Tobacco is highly unlikely, if not impossible.Obviously, Alcohol level content is regulated and an argument could be made that drugs could be commercialized under the same circumstances, by regulating active ingredients. But the major problem with drugs, is that your body becomes too tolerant, too fast, unlike with Alcohol and Tobacco. These is why I say Yes, there is a Good Reason. Now, onto why I say there isn’t a Good reason:First of all, Alcohol and Tobacco are commonly referred to as “silent killers”. And this is what they are.A bigger case can be made for Alcohol, as it affects entire communities and households, not just the person who consumes it excessively. Drunken drivers kill people all day, everyday. Drunken parents and spouses beat up their loved ones regularly. And a lot of people living on the street will scrape together every penny they can get, to buy alcohol instead of a good meal. Alcohol has certainly ruined more families and communities than any drug out there. But that’s because alcohol…is LEGAL. And therein lies the problem. Drugs like Heroin and Coke have also ruined families, and if legalized, will be no different from alcohol. The only difference is, those addicted to Heroin and Coke will likely die much sooner than those addicted to alcohol. But intoxicants on the whole, don’t even come close to the most poisonous drug of all. And that is GAMBLING. Gambling is by far the most dangerous “drug” on this planet. It has ruined families, communities, friendships, and even certain cities. Gambling is the most addictive, and most destructive of all. And yet, it is 100% legal, 100% marketed and advertised in any forum, on any platform, to anyone, whether they are of legal age or not.Why is this? Money. Money Money Money. Where there’s money to be made, there is a process of legalized engagement, to screw you, into giving over your money for your own personal poison :)

Why aren't alcohol, nicotine, and tobacco illegal while cocaine, meth, and marijuana are?

Marketing and power sources. Marijauna became illegal because of the hemp plant and its threat to cotton, the drug aspect was just a convenient way to market it. In much the same way, tobacco isn't illegal because the tobacco companies are too large and powerful. The U.S. tried to make alcohol illegal and it backfired because the public didn't like it and, just as other drugs do today, caused a HUGE spike in crime. The real question here is why are any drugs illegal when we are so comfortable with pharmaceuticals? Now that's a big question!
