What Is The Physiology Of The Thyroid Gland

Anatomy: Question about the thyroid gland?

Because the hormones are still in your system. It takes a week for the hormones to get worked out of system. Even though the thing that produces the hormones are gone, the hormones it has already produced are still in your body until they get depleted.

What are the major physiological actions of T3 and T4 in the thyroid gland? What is the mechanism of action of T3 and T4?

Greetings Emily,Major physiological actions of T3 and T4 are conversion, stimulation, and, inhibition of information which is part of our code.Heart, cardiac function is also another major physiological action of T3 and T4 IN the thyroid gland. The mechanism of action of T3 and T4 is for T4 to convert into the T3 and to provide the available IODINE to the thyroid for the production of hormones, cell energy, (ATP) and more.In kindness~

HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY?

Matt is wrong on the first one, it's not the respiratory system. We do not breathe out nitrogen - we breathe out carbon dioxide.

The urinary system is responsible for getting rid of nitrogen wastes.

What does my thyroid results mean?

So,let me tell you a story …The thyroid gland works hard to produce the T3 and the T4 harmones. There is another gland-the pituitary gland .It is like the trigger that releases a bullet -the TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Harmone). This bullet goes and hits the thyroid gland and makes it produce the thyroid harmones (T3 and T4).So when the levels of T3 and T4 are low (as in hypothyroidism),The pituitary fires more bullets (the TSH).So ,your reports show higher than normal levels of TSH and lower levels of T3 and T4 (in hypothyroidism)The vice versa is true in case of hyperthyroidism.Since, there is already increased production of T3 and T4 the firing of bullets is lowered (Low TSH).Hence the lower levels of TSH and higher levels of T3,T4 are seen in hyperthyroidism.

After surgery of carcinoma papilarry thyroid gland, my TSH level was showing 280. Is that good or not?

Patients who have undergone removal of partial or complete thyroid gland, for goiter or malignancy, are prone for hypothyroidism, so called Iatrogenic hypothyroidism With a TSH level of 280, you should definitely be worried. Finding an abnormal TSH, the next step is to measure levels of circulating thyroid hormone levels. Radioimmunoassays are widely available for serum total T4 and total T3. The assays for total T4 and T3 levels also measure hormones in bound state, which means the hormone that is bound to proteins in plasma, and is not biologically active. Therefore, measurement of free T3 and T4 is more accurate in terms of knowing the active hormone level. Assays are also available to measure free T3 and T4 levels, directly or indirectly. What type of physiology is employed when studying the endocrine system?

You study the nervous system when you are studying the endocrine system; both deal with the releasal of hormones

Can thyroid conditions effect your heart rate?

Thyroid gland secretes the hormone called thyroxine hormone which regulates the metabolism of the body (so called baal metabolic rate : BMR ). To understand simply increased secretion leads to increase metabolic rate which increases the body demand meaning nutrition as well , body tries to compensate it by increasing heart rate . This mechanism is opposite in case for decrease thyroid gland secretion .To summarise increased activity of thyroid gland ( thyroxine hormone ) increased heart rate ( tachycardia ) and decrease activity causes decrease heart rate (bradycardia).
