What famous classical songs are in movies?

Almost anything classical will eventually turn up in a movie. Beethoven's music has been used in about a thousand movies and television shows. Don't believe me? Check IMDB. The first movement of the Moonlight Sonata is particularly popular, and I remember seeing more than one actor legitimately playing it on screen as source music. His Ninth Symphony has been widely used, especially the Scherzo and the Ode to Joy of the finale. I remember one year around 1980 when I heard "Fur Elise" as background music in five different movies.Mozart gets a lot of play, especially the opening of Eine kleine Nachtmusik and the Rondo alla turca (finale) of the Piano Sonata in A. The slow movement of his Piano Concerto in C, K. 467, was used multiple times after its appearance in the Swedish film "Elvira Madigan."Bach has long been popular, especially the Goldberg Variations and various of the six Brandenburg Concerti. The chorale prelude "Sheep may safely graze" is often heard in a church or funeral scene.Rossini's "William Tell" Overture is called on for quiet moments ("Sunrise" and "Shepherd's Pipe") as well as exciting calls to action (the thrice-familiar ride to the rescue quickstep which ends the Overture).Grieg is known for "Sunrise" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from his "Peer Gynt" music. From the 20th century, Prokofiev gets a lot of attention for quick, sarcastic music (March from "The Love for Three Oranges" and Troika from "Lt. Kije") as does Rachmaninov for his deep romanticism (all three movements of the Second Piano Concerto, Prelude in C-Sharp Minor, 18th Variation from the Paganini Variations). The winner, though, has to be the opening movement of Carl Orff's Carmina burana, "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" (generally just called "O Fortuna"), which by now has been used in close to 100 movies and--it seems like--500 movie trailers. One recent film which used classical music to good effect was "Shutter Island," where Mahler's teenage Piano Quartet appears as source music while several pieces of recent composition (Ingram Marshall's "Fog Tropes," Ligeti, John Adams, John Cage. Nam June Paik) helped define the mood and the historical era.I'm grateful for any appearance of classical music in a film, even echt-classical scores by John Williams or James Newton Howard, as those convey human emotions to me much more directly than any pop song or contemporary commercial product could.
